SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Roland Burris has acknowledged trying to raise money for former Gov. Rod Blagojevich before being appointed to the Senate.

According to a transcript posted on the Chicago Tribune's Web site, Burris told reporters in Peoria Monday night that he talked to some friends about putting together a fundraiser after being called by the ex-governor's brother

Hasn’t been a good last six months for people with the last name “Burris” or “Burress”

He’s safe unless he has to go to jail. The Dems aren’t gonna move against the black guy, and if R’s do - they’ll be called racists.

Americans are getting tired of corruption in business and govt....this is a bad environment for him and as such, his skin color may not save him at this point in time.

Bad time to be a corrupt, black legislator.

Three or four more days of Burris amending and extending his previous testimony and statements and we will be down to him admitting that he bought the senate seat outright (to me he already has -- but I mean he would be saying so in those words).

This is really astounding to watch. If Burris was a conservative white guy the cable news channels would be leading every fifteen minutes with the story, which doesn't mean that the conservative white guy should be ignored. Every SOB that engages in this behavior should be prosecuted if laws are broken or drawn and quartered in the public square.

We, as a society, are allowing this crap to occur without serious ramifications for the offender. WE, as a society, are the ones being punished by this behavior. We have to wake up and take control.

Americans may be getting tired of it (though methinks most don’t even pay attention), but it will be a Senate decision. They protect their own....and libs are in charge.

“...The Dems aren’t gonna move against the black guy, and if R’s do - they’ll be called racists....”

That claim no longer has any effect on me. It is also losing its effect on more and more people. Folks are fed up with all the racist cop-out screams.

The guy is dirty, doesn’t matter what his melanin levels are.

He was probably tipped off that he was on an FBI tape.

Burris seems to have lied to get the Senate seat? Can all of Burris's votes be stripped? Could the the “stimulus bill” have passed without his vote? I SMELL A LAW SUIT!

If he was solicited to do some fundraising for Blago prior to the November election and declined, I don’t see an issue with his appointment as a Senator two months after the election. In fact, I then have no problem with his testimony. When he was asked “did anyone close to the Governor contact you”, I would presume that this would be in connection with the appointment, not something that happened 3 months prior.

He was probably tipped off that he was on an FBI tape.

That's the speculation. Since his testimony in the impeachment trial, it has slipped out that not only was ROD Blago being taped, but his brother ROB Blago was being taped also. Burris had been extremely careful not to discuss money with Rod, but he had been blabbing to Rob, who is his brother's campaign manager. Had to CYA.

Could the the “stimulus bill” have passed without his vote?

Even though Burris was the LAST person to cast a "yes" vote, the bill needed 60 votes to pass. He was number 61! So his vote was actually superfluous.

Once again... Chicago politics. Same story, different character. The state of IL richly deserves this humiliation for putting these people on the national stage.
