Mortgage deal may hurt Dodd in 2010
By JOSH KRAUSHAAR | 2/17/09 4:38 AM EST

Is Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) really in trouble?

**SNIP**

A 56 percent majority of Connecticut voters said they were less likely to vote for him because of the mortgage controversy. Fifty-four percent of respondents said they were not satisfied with Dodd's explanation of allegations that he received preferential mortgage treatment.

“Sen. Dodd is vulnerable. His approval has sunk to a new low. More voters disapprove than approve of the job he is doing for the first time in 15 years of polling,” said Quinnipiac Poll Director Douglas Schwartz. “The mortgage controversy has taken a toll on his approval rating.”

**SNIP**

National Republicans, eager to expand the opportunities to put Democrats on defense, also have gone after Dodd with relish. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has blasted Dodd for not providing adequate oversight of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in his role as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.

Dodd, however, is no easy mark. The Dodd family name has been on the statewide ballot — his father, Thomas, also served in the House and Senate — nine times since 1952.

Democrats point out that the poll came out within days of Dodd’s explanation for the mortgage — and his efforts at damage control had been panned by most of the Connecticut media. In an attempt to defuse the long-simmering controversy, the senator held a press conference earlier this month where he said he regretted his dealings with Countrywide and announced he will be refinancing the controversial loans. "We were never offered special or sweetheart deals," he said.

Great! Then Connecticut can elect another RINO or independent (Liberal) and the GOP gains nothing...

Let's just kick Connecticut out of the Union!

Recently, with the discovery and publication of a letter from the Library of Congress to Senator Dodd from July 1968 confirming his request to have a series of Nazi laws translated from documents provided by Senator Dodd[19], controversy has arisen as to how much of the Gun Control Act of 1968 was taken directly from gun registration laws enacted and enforced by the Nazis in Germany and areas under Nazi control.[20] It is believed that Senator Dodd obtained copies of the Nazi laws while serving as a prosecutor at Nuremberg.[21]

In 1967 he was censured by the Senate for using campaign funds for personal purposes.[22] Beyond the Senate Ethics Committee's formal disciplinary action, other sources (such as investigative journalist Drew Pearson and Jack Anderson's Congress in Crisis) suggest Dodd's corruption was far broader in scope.[23] In 1970, after suffering a heart attack, he chose not to run for re-election for the Senate, and the Democrats nominated Joseph Duffey to replace him. However, Dodd entered the race after the primary as an Independent. Taking just under a quarter of the vote, both he and Duffey lost to Lowell Weicker.

Is it possible that Dodd could be defeated or is Connecticut simply a lost cause at this point?

Dodd is not an easy mark but Governor Jodi Rell might be able to beat him, or even former Rep. Rob Simmons might.

It would take three elements: scandal, opponent with name recognition, and a strong GOP wave year.

It was his father... he tried to follow in daddy's footsteps like Al Gore and quite a few others and not that successfully at that.

He served as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1933 and 1934, the highlight of his career there being his participation in an unsuccessful trap set for famed gangster John Dillinger.[3] He was then Connecticut director of the National Youth Administration from 1935 to 1938. He was assistant to five successive United States Attorneys General (Homer Cummings, Frank Murphy, Robert Jackson, Francis Biddle, and Tom Clark) from 1938 to 1945.[4]

As a special agent for the Attorney General, Dodd was basically a trial-level federal prosecutor. He worked primarily on criminal and civil liberties cases, including the prosecution of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1930s.[4] In 1942 he was sent to Hartford to prosecute a major spy ring case in which five defendants were accused of violating the Espionage Act of 1917 by conspiring to gather and deliver U.S. Army, Navy and defense information to Germany or Japan. Four of the five pleaded guilty, but Dodd tried and won the conviction of the fifth, Reverend Kurt Emil Bruno Molzahn.[5]

Dodd became vice chairman of the Board of Review and later executive trial counsel for the Office of the United States Chief of Counsel for the Prosecution of Axis Criminality at Nuremberg, Germany, in 1945 and 1946. He practiced law privately in Hartford, Connecticut, from 1947 to 1953.

THE LATEST DODD-**RT-----he plans to write a book on his role in ‘trying to save’ the U.S. economy-----a vain attempt to burnish an image tarnished by the national financial crisis

(Journal Inquirer | 2/13/09 | Alex Wood / FR Posted by Libloather).

Who knew the opportunistic jerk could even read....nevermind write?

NOW THIS IS FUNNY FReeper TROPICAL posted Dodd and his wife thought Countrywide's VIP treatment meant upgraded customer service so he didn’t have to go through voice prompts.....Is Dodd a genius or what?

REFERENCE Obama's $4.3 trillion bailout is dwarfed by the $9 trillion in
personal wealth Americans have lost since "Buy Me" Dodd's Bear Market
of 14 months ago.

"What quid pro quo? I tell ya---it was a
lousy VIP mortgage from my pal, Angie."

How does Angie Mozilo get into his
$170,000 Lamborghini with Dodd in his back pocket?

"Buy Me" Dodd is the best friend the lending industry's money can buy.....Dodd's pals got blank checks for bonuses, Caribbean junkets, Super Bowl parties, office remodeling, and M&A's....in return for known AND UNKNOWN perks for Dodd.

While the banking/lending industry was showering Dodd with millions in campaign donations and VIP mortgages, Dodd was opening credit markets to unworthy borrowers; thanks to Dodd, Countrywide and other lenders made a killing on subprime mortgages......er, make that "affordable housing".....

That ill-fated move created the housing bubble, the Wall Street meltdown, and our economic calamity, necessitating (first) the $700B TARP, and next the trillion dollar stimulus......(and counting).

===============================================

REFERENCE For nearly a year and a half, Countrywide failed (or declined) to secure its interest in Dodd's home by taking the ordinary and essential step of presenting the documents to the local town clerk and recording them in the land records.---- The escrow company that handles the transaction always does that once the monies are wired.

JUST WONDERING Why would someone instruct the escrow company not to record the Deed? Actually on a refi, the deed would be in Dodd's name and the recording would be a lien by Country Wide. (A) Was the mortgage non-existent? (B) Were wired monies a payoff "laundered" as a mortgage? (C) Were the monies diverted-----maybe wired to a Conn casino account?

RECAP The escrow company that handles mortgage transactions always records the deed once the monies are wired. Why would someone instruct the escrow company not to record the Deed? Was the mortgage perhaps non-existent? Were wired monies a payoff "laundered" as a mortgage? Wired monies could be a smoking gun. Were the monies diverted-----maybe wired to a Conn casino account?

NEED TO KNOW Dodd (and his wife and family) are probably enrolled in high-roller comp programs at Conn casinos (and/or in other gambling venues). These programs show every nickel high rollers bet---including wins on which high rollers may not have paid taxes.

Casinos are very tightly regulated. They are more than happy to cooperate with authorities---to protect their licenses. Casinos would also have records on the amount of untraceable casino chips Dodd (his wife and his family) received-----maybe gifts from his pal Angelo.

Authorities should also inquire if Dodd wire-transferred--- or if Angelo and other sub-prime lenders--- wire-transferred monies into Dodd's casino account........and if taxes were paid on these monies.

Another possibility: Dodd, his family, and Angelo, may have used NETeller Plc to illegally convert monies that were then transferred offshore---to overseas gambling companies, for their personal use later. NETeller is an Isle of Man-based payment processor for gambling Web sites (suspected of having operations in the US Virgin Islands---a notorious money-laundering bank haven).
