Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait. Both Gulf wars are in response to that. There was never a peace agreement and Iraq violated the terms of the armistice, so removing him from office was totally justified and moral. The question as to whether it was prudentially justifiable is another question, and considering the relatively tiny death toll it was clearly prudentially correct. At the time leading up to the invasion I opposed using the WMD argument because it was unnecessary and not proved conclusively.

I don't feel qualified to cherry-pick which of his official positions should be granted moral authority. Do you feel differently? None of the Pope's statements on the Iraq war were made ex cathedra nor were they teachings about moral truth. They were statements prudentially applying moral truths to public affairs, and I am bound to respect, not to obey them. In the Catholic Church the prime responsibility to apply moral truths to public affairs lies in the hands of the laity, not the clergy.

Half the Catholics I know are pro-choice dems/libs.It would be more accurate to say that half of the people you know who portray themselves as Catholics are pro abortion, No one who is pro-choice is in fact Catholic, no matter what they think.
