President Obama opposes any move to bring back the so-called Fairness Doctrine, a spokesman told FOXNews.com Wednesday.
The statement is the first definitive stance the administration has taken since an aide told an industry publication last summer that Obama opposes the doctrine -- a long-abolished policy that would require broadcasters to provide opposing viewpoints on controversial issues.

So everyone got all worked up over nothing? How surprising.
Is there anyone who actually believes that Obama doesn’t want the Fairness Doctrine.
Or, doesn’t it seem they’re going to vote in an new, ‘community-oriented (read: ACORN)’ version of the fairness doctrine—just without calling it that?
He’s been totally honest from the get-go, right?
Wow, and the big Zero always tells the truth.... /s
He will stay above it, but if his gang gets it to his desk, then what. Also, it doesn’t need to be legislated it can be done with a directive by the Head of the FCC.
He’ll veto it for political points if it comes across his desk in an FCC-only bill, but sign it if it’s hidden in an omnibus bill, while publicly lamenting having to do so.
Obama will try to shut down conservative talk radio using the less obviously unconstitutional “local content” approach.
Of course, this will simply mean that we’ll get lots of local analogs of Rush and Sean (and that Michael Savage’s show will be securely ensconced in the Bay Area).
So is he lying again or what, who knows? The resistance is organizing and we need to take some part in telling them so.
I oppose me starting a fight with a professional boxer. I strongly oppose that.
Hey, Zero, pull the other one.
Obama is a sneaky little bitch. He will not use the fairness doctrine to suppress conservative talk radio. He will use localization. The idea that local radio content should deal with local issues not national issues. The programming should be by and for the locals.
Give it two weeks and any statement he makes expires. It's all about change....
I hear ACORN and other groups are quietly recruiting people to “complain” about several shows’ “content”, and insist on local broadcasting. Radio owners, not wanting to hassle with the public, will turn their stations into Music or community-oriented shows.
THIS is enough, and unforgivable in a free country.
Yeah, my first thought was that he’s lying.
Just like he’s “pro-life” - right...
“I oppose the Fairness Doctrine, but I do favor ‘Net neutrality’ and ‘Localism’ and ‘Radio Balance Act’”
Is that Obama and the Democrats off in the distance? It’s looks like they’re... well... saluting.
What is the tipping point at which conservatives will say stop!, rise up and eradicate these idiots from our country?
Your scenario is closest to what he’d do, I think.
