Corzine settles with Katz relative for $362,500
The (Don't Say "Newark") Star Ledger ^ | 2/18/09 | Josh Margolin

To avoid a potentially messy court fight, Gov. Jon Corzine has paid $362,500 to the brother-in-law of labor leader Carla Katz, his former girlfriend.

Corzine completed the confidential deal with Rocco Riccio, a former state employee, in late September after Riccio threatened to sue the millionaire governor for allegedly reneging on a promise to find him a private-sector job, the governor confirmed.

The payment marks the second time the governor has paid Katz or one of her relatives after publicly saying he had ended all financial ties to the labor leader he dated for two years.

(snip)

Riccio has said Corzine forced him out of the Turnpike Authority after reporters began asking questions about anonymous accusations he once snooped into the state tax records of potential political enemies. Riccio also has said he has been unable to find full-time work for nearly two years.

Corzine declined to comment beyond his statement and instead referred questions to his lawyer, Angelo Genova.

The Governor of New Jersey put himself in a terrible position by carrying on this relationship with a woman who represented a public service employees union while negotiations were ongoing. Now he is a deep-pocketed pinata who will settle for big bucks in order to keep the details out of the newspapers.

Corzine is in big trouble for this Fall’s elections. Either Christie or Lonagan is going to clean his clock.

Oh, he’s a Dem, all right. If he were an R, he would have been run out of town on a rail (and rightly so!).

So, after John Corzine goes down in flames in the first big election of the Barack Obama era, do you think they are going to say it means people are disaffected with the Democrats, or do you think they will blame the scandals?

Man I hope your right. I won't believe it till it happens. This effing state is brutal.
Ya, know though, if the NJ Rats hold to form and it looks like he's in trouble, they'll find a last minute replacement to run in place of him.

Hey here's a bizzare fact: Our last 3 elected Governers have all broken a femur while in office. What are the odds!!??
