My attitude on race has PROFOUNDLY changed.

Since when?

as a southerner this sort of stuff is old news to us....3 decades now at least post segregation and how that has played out

i just had a conversation with an old uncle about this last week....how being accomodating 40 years ago has borne bitter fruit and are we ALL really better off?

my family was all quite pro civil rights back when it mattered yet now everyone feels like the worst fears of the segregationists have come to pass and are getting worse....I hear this as a final lament from dying relatives in formerly white communities now crumbling under black political machine rule

I fear none of this will end well.

"I fear none of this will end well."

I share your concern.

There’re plenty on FR that are naive as hell.

The transition back to reality is going to be painful.

Agreed.

Despite the last four decades, it feels like we're back at square one.

However, the word "racist" has been overused to the point where it doesn't mean anything anymore.
They are going to have to come up with a new "hate" word.

I wonder if any of the race-baiters will be held responsible?

I wonder, too, if Michelle is still proud of her country*?

*I say her country because it's clear to me that she and I live in entirely different countries.

I've been away for a couple of days and missed some good threads. Holder ironically may be right that we're a nation of cowards when it comes to race. A lot of white people must be cowards, otherwise minorities wouldn't get away with many of the demands they make, nor would they be able to illegally enter our nation, nor would they be able to shut down conversations merely by howling “racism”.

How are we supposed to have a conversation about race when only the non-white side is permitted to speak freely? When the white side is only permitted to grovel and admit to its alleged history of wickedness and oppression?

Okay, so let's say there's a room full of people, half white and half black, and they're supposed to have an open discussion about race. One of the blacks starts harping about slavery. How are the whites supposed to respond? Suppose one of them said, yes, your ancestors were brought here as slaves, but they were also slaves back in Africa, so you should thank your lucky stars they ended up here. After all, slaves here had a better standard of living, and their ancestors not only became free but have been blessed with the highest standard of living of any blacks on earth, a standard no black run country ever achieved for its citizens.

What would happen if that perfectly factual and defensible response were given? We all know what would happen. The blacks would react with outrage and would say that “dialogue” with “racists” is impossible. The discussion moderators would immediately declare the white response out-of-bounds. Whites would then be told that “talking about race” means that blacks can pontificate eternally about their alleged oppression and the only proper white response is eternal apologizing and deference.

A lot of conservative whites still don't get it. A couple of weeks back someone here posted a column by Dan Calabrese. He said he voted against Obama because he disagreed with his socialist and pacifist policies, but that he was happy a black had been elected president and he droned on and on about how this means race no longer matters in America, yada yada yada. Man, that poor guy had no clue.

BTW, it'll be interesting to see how the people like Dan Calabrese, David Horowitz, Peggy Noonan, Kathleen Parker, etc. who have hailed the election of Obama as ushering in a new era where we've “moved beyond race” will react once reality slaps them in the face.

We have some PC posters here, too. My guess is they'll respond not by defending America and dismissing the idiotic allegations of white wickedness, but by saying that the leading “racists” were all Democrats. That seems to be the preferred “mainstream” response. It effectively concedes the debate to the Eric Holder types, but provides wiggle room to avoid personal responsibility. “Yeah, America was an evil gestapo-type regime for most of it's history, but that's because Democrats like Al Gore Sr. opposed the Civil Rights Act.”
