When Howard Stern left terrestrial radio for the world of satellites, he was replaced by three different regional hosts. Two of them went down in flames almost immediately, but CBS Radio had high hopes for the third, comedian Adam Carolla.
Had. As in past tense. Formerly. No more.
AllAccess.com, a popular radio news site, reports that affiliates have been notified that Friday will be Carollas last day at CBS Radio.
Yes, there will be a large announcement, Carolla said. We will do that tomorrow or later today. Well play it by ear. You will find me via the webcast. So all you junkies can get a little hit of the Ace Man methadone.
Rumors have been floating around the radio industry that

I’ve heard Stern isn’t a big fan of Obama, and he would be an effective ally in the fight against the reinstatement of The Fairness Doctrine.

That’s a great point. I’m no fan of Stern, but he would be effective with the Fairness Doctrine.

Most of his compensation came in the form of stock in Sirius. With the company headed to bankruptcy, you can imagine how much that has gone down.

"Thats a great point. Im no fan of Stern, but he would be effective with the Fairness Doctrine."Howard Stern thougt his listeners would flock to Sirius. What he didn't count on is they would have to pay for it as opposed to getting it for free. Says volumes about his followers.

Well, Gator, I'll take your word on his political stance and effectiveness on fighting the Fairness Doctrine.
Personally, he makes my eyeballs itch. Since he has already fled once to satellite radio? (Going broke at this point.)
I have read that he is actually pretty conservative and this is just his schitck.
We'll see. Truthfully, in this battle, the enemy of the enemy is my friend.

“Real radio?” Once you’ve had satellite, you’ll never go back. It’s my $13 a month vice.

I guess I just don't care for his brand of humor. I consider him to be pretty crude. But...I don't have to listen to him.
Hence my comment... that particular brand of broadcasting could well be accepted and other conservative radio be in danger.
It does make me wonder, if the Fairness Doctrine were to be re-instituted, what his off-set be? That could be really amusing. :)

I really can not stand Howard Stern but he would be a great Allie in the war against the fairness doctrine. Who could ever forget Grandpa Munster (Al Lewis) shouting “F&^K the FCC”!! One of the many things Stern knows is how to get free media attention.

I've been a Sirius/XM subscriber for four years and I'd happily pay double the price they are charging. Nearly 100 channels of commercial free music in every conceivable genre. My only beef is they don't have a classical station dedicated to the Baroque era, but other than that, they have turned me on to tons of great new music. Some of my favorite stations are Outlaw Country, First Wave, Willie's Place, Lithium, Underground Garage, XM U, and the Opera channel.
I should mention that I've never listened to Howard Stern once. How many millions are they paying him again? Maybe Sirius/XM can finally get in the black if he leaves them to go back to terrestrial radio.

Stern has a five-year, $500,000,000 contract with Sirius to talk about boobs, lesbians and his private region. "Bad business model" doesn't even begin to cover it. I suspect those five years are just about up, and that Sirius/XM wants to be rid of him. As you said, they might make a profit! Especially if they toss Oprah overboard with him.
The shakiness of Sirius/XM and the talk of reinstituting the "Fairness" Doctrine worries me. I am in the car at minimum eight hours a week. FM is filled with ads and no variety and I don't want to carry a truckload of CDs...plus I like talk radio! Sirius Patriot, Fox Talk, Radio Classics, FamilyNet...the best. The music variety cannot be matched on FM.
