Fox ran a piece about this outfit, named for something in Swahili. It is run like a commune and is losing money big time. It will be bailed out by the taxpayers in BO’s Porkulus Bill. Now you can see why he is so taken with this bunch of “green” losers.

In the past, the government has subsidized some major businesses. Federal dollars helped build railroads and help electrify the country. But all of those efforts were based on proven, existing technology. The railroad companies wanted someone to give them cheap land so that they could lay their tracks, but there was no question about the technology: railroads worked just fine.

I do not want the federal government to help alternative energy firms. The technology is not self-sufficient in the marketplace. It ought to prove itself and then -- MAYBE -- the government could help it spread.

As far as I'm concerned the solar and wind crowd are just getting handouts for technology that has "looked promising" for over 30 years.

Actually the federal government provided land grants and "loans" to the railroad builders....they were not given taxpayer dollars.

Fair comment. I just think that government involvement in the marketplace -- if it is to take place at all -- should only go to proven technology.

Subsidizing 1000 solar start-ups, hoping that maybe one of them might figure out how to make solar energy viable, is no way to use taxpayer money.
