Autonomous military robots that will fight future wars must be programmed to live by a strict warrior code, or the world risks untold atrocities at their steely hands. The stark warning, which includes discussion of a "Terminator" style scenario in which robots turn on their masters is part of a hefty report funded for the US Navy High Tech and secretive office of Naval Research

Give them all Windows OS. Then, when they crash, we can unplug them.

Since the government is moving toward open source programs, everyone will have the source so we can program then, not program them or un-program them for anything.

This is a very real and very scary issue.

Let me also point out something rather metaphysical - James Cameron had a near-fatal fever during which he saw the Terminator in a dream. When he regained consciousness, he realized that the man-machine didn't exist yet, so it must be from the future. Very sobering beginning to an "innocent entertainment" franchise.

Seems to me someone already thought of a solution to this
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I think they heard it incorrectly - Not robots, but the O-bots will rebel when BO refuses to part the sea, walk on water and make everyone of them a lottery winner!
