You people are ridiculous.
I am sure you feel that you are a better conservative, and smarter than everyone else. If a person is willing to sell out their principles from the very beginning, for the reason of winning elections, then they are no better than the repubs who got the GOP into this mess, and the libs who run the country.
Conservatism wins; Reagan taught us that (even the great Ronadlo Magnus disappointed from time to time, though). Conservative values are what made this country great; history has taught us that. A person, and party has to be willing to lose on those values, though, in order to put the BEST candidate up. Winning by compromise against the libs is a loss, because they haven't been defeated. They must be utterly destroyed ideologically. Their ideas must be shown to be bankrupt at every turn. The people have to have their heads lifted out of the government trough, in order to show them the s**t that covers their faces, thanks to the libs.
You don't see the Marxists who control the Democrats getting all weepy and discouraged before storming off in little hissy fits.
Who said anything about disengaging? In fact, I am all about engaging the enemies within the party; even if I quit putting and (R) by my name a long time ago, and without. I am going to be completely honest and engage you.
You, and people like you, are the problem with the GOP at the moment. The GOP will not survive if control of the party is not wrested from the grips of people who do not, and will not, embrace even the most basic of conservative values, and would rather win elections than institute real change within the GOP and Washington. You want to sit there, and talk down to people that propose taking the party back to its roots. You want to continue down that well trodden path that has led to the socialization of America. "Put up ANY candidate that will win against the Dems" you shout. "Pay no attention to those rabble rousers wanting conservatism" you demand.

I am sure that in your eyes, we are. In my eyes, you are just as much a threat to the country as the libs you purport to oppose. You wish to repeat the same behavior that has proven to fail time and again,yet you expect different results. That, my FRiend is the definition of insanity.
Your heart is in the right place, anyone can see that. You haven't hit rock bottom, yet, though. After enough times of having the door bonk you in the nose, you will come to realize that the middle of the road repubs are NO better than the dems and that purging them from the party is the only solution (why Snowe, Collins and Specter can still put an (R) by their names baffles me).
Don't worry, there will be no "storming off in little hissy fits" here. The ghost of Ronald Reagan has come to haunt those that have, and would, lead the Republican party, and the country, astray. Guerrilla Conservatism will take the fight where it needs to go.
