RNC chair plans 'off the hook' campaign

(CNN) — Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says his party is going to launch an "off the hook" public relations campaign that will update the GOP’s image by translating it to "urban-suburban hip-hop settings."

The new GOP leader told the Washington Times that the party’s defeat in states such as North Carolina and Virginia made it clear they needed a new approach.

“We need messengers to really capture that region — young, Hispanic, black, a cross section…” he said in an interview published Thursday. “We want to convey that the modern-day GOP looks like the conservative party that stands on principles. But we want to apply them to urban-surburban hip-hop settings.”

He added, jokingly, that “we need to uptick our image with everyone, including one-armed midgets.”

I'm not really comfortable with his words. What, now we want to be hip hop and urban? That's certainly not the image I want to present.

So, we’re going to attempt to go from 9% to 10% of the Black vote, while driving away another 10% of the base?

oTOH....this addresses the conservapurist complaint that they don't want a big tent, and you can cram a lot of midgets into the true-conservative pup-tent.

It doesn’t matter how we do it.......AS LONG AS WE REMAIN TRUE TO OUR CONSERVATIVE VALUES! That’s whats wrong with many of us......Gee; something different. Lets not be close minded about ANY ideas to get and keep our strong conservative message going out to everyone whoever they are.........

I absolutely agree with this. Like it or not, the image that the average voter has of a Republican is something out of a Looney Toons cartoon—fat, old, bald male working on Wall Street in a three-piece suit. I would love to see something with lots of different races, ages, professions showing the reality of the average Republican. Politics is about image now more than ever, and we are losing on that front. Honestly, I think that’s why Palin provoked such a visceral response by the libs—she broke the mold.

Egad.

If I hadn’t already been driven away from the GOP years ago for their neo-con internationalism, and their collaboration with Socialist Party A (the Democratic party), and total cowardice and unwillingness to actually DO anything conservative, this would do it.

He’s got to get off his pander-to-illegal-Hispanics kick or he’ll find the checks still won’t come in.

If he’s going to run a Chamber of Commerce campaign, the Democrats will be in charge the next 40 years.

We don’t have to trade away our principles to pander for votes. Instead, we have to educate these minorities that their best interests lie in following conservative principles.

If Republicans want the Hispanic vote, all they have to do is convince them that continuing on the Democrat track will keep them in the same bondage and dependency that the Democrats have inflicted on blacks.

Look, I think it is a good idea to find new, young conservatives of all stripes to update the image.

I just think they should be very, very careful, not to use RINO values, but only conservative representatives.

People need to see our ideas as timeless, not old hat.

This is stoopid....totally stoopid.

What...have Vanilla Ice as a spokesman? Why dont we get Biz Markie and Sir Mix-A-Lot while we are at it?

You bring in new voters by being true to your strong conservative message...which will be very important in 10 and 12 with Stimulus Bill

Beginning to wonder if Steele is a DNC plant....the dude is a freaking liberal....

"I absolutely agree with this.

As do I. Steele certainly has his work cut out for him.

Unfortunately, the people that have this preconceived notion of Republicans and conservative were swayed in that direction by the MSM. I fear no matter what Steele says (or how he says it) and what he may or may not do will still be portrayed by the MSM as the tool of the "evil, fat, balding white guy."
