*** ALSO TONIGHT ***
The Pentagon said Tuesday that Obama had approved a significant troop increase for Afghanistan, which is expected to include 8,000 Marines and 4,000 Army troops. An additional 5,000 troops will be deployed at a later date to support combat forces, bringing the total to 17,000, the Defense Department said later in the day.
Is this the right approach? Military historian and author Richard S. Lowry will give us the benefit of his opinion.
Lowry's definitive books about the Iraq and Gulf Wars "Marines in the Garden of Eden" and "The Gulf War Chronicles" have earned critical acclaim. Lowry currently writes at the military blog Op-For, and is currently working on his third book about the Iraq war titled "New Dawn" which will tell of the fight to free Fallujah.
