The head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee has approached former New York Gov. George Pataki about running for the U.S. Senate in 2010, according to a person who spoke to Pataki about the private meeting.

The person confirmed Tuesday's meeting in New York City between Pataki and Sen. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican who heads the committee. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to comment.

Pataki, now in private law practice, had not accepted or rejected the idea, the person said. He would face Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who was appointed on Jan. 23 to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton when Clinton became President Barack Obama's secretary of state.

I’d prefer King or Giuliani. Actually, RG may be a better governor.

I’d like to think that the Conservative Party will run someone against him in NY if they try to put that Christine Todd Whitman-boot-lickin’-squish on the Republican ballot.

Yeah, but frankly, what chance would a REAL conservative have in New York?

Pataki was endorsed by the “Conservative” Party. Anyone who takes Mike Long’s shakedown CINO organization seriously is kidding themselves.

Rudy would make a great Governor and King would make a great Senator for NY.

Pataki needs to be treated like spoiled milk.

Hey Republican party,
Ya want any financial support?
Ya want conservatives to stay in the party and not bolt for a new conservative party?
Try getting rid of RINO turds like this assclown.
Pataki? Yeah, that’s moving forward.
Crappola.

The best we’ll get in NY is King. The next best are Giuliani or Pataki (preference to Rudy)... If King or Rudy don’t have the stomach or desire, then Pataki is far better than a Lib Dem. That’s the truth, like it or not.

Maybe Al D’Amato would want to take another crack at Schumer!

That makes sense. I moved from the northeast 10 years ago. Pataki didn't look so bad when he was D'Amato's protege. But as time passed ... ugh.

I was thinking the same thing. That being the case, the seat might as well remain Dem.

Can he win?? Dems had to settle for Tester in Mt and Webb in VA not your classic liberals. The key is will he play ball and vote our way when it counts. If so run him and win.

hillarita and chuck the schmuck seats both running in 2010. A double pick up is about as likely as the Cubs winning it all but it is nice to dream about
