MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- Mickey Rourke may have resurrected his career with his amazing performance in The Wrestler, but in an interview with RELEVANT magazine, Rourke opens up about an even more significant turnaround in his life--one that happened in a church. The interview can be found in the March/April 6th Anniversary Issue of the magazine, which arrives on newsstands March 1st. Rourke is currently nominated for Best Actor in the 2009 Academy Awards, which airs on Sunday, February 22nd.
The article covers Rourke's brutal experiences growing up, his life as a boxer and the fateful night when--on his way to kill the man who raped his girlfriend--he decided to stop by church one last time.
Rourke describes his first encounter with the priest who is now an important mentor in his life: "It was gonna be more than a punch in the mouth, and the guy deserved more, but Father Peter gave me the rap about, 'Where in the Bible does it say, "'Vengeance is mine,' says Mickey Rourke"?'" It was a question that changed Rourke's life.

Don’t care.
Cool. Glad you plugged the mag. Interested in reading this as well.
I hope the best for him.
But let’s give him 20 years as a Christian and then let’s hear from him. Celebrity conversion are notoriously short lived.
I haven’t seen this yet but he was spectacular in Sin City.
He just lost the Oscar, but won something much better.
I am so sick and tired of the model...
1. I drank myself into oblivion, woke up after three days, and I’m here to tell you how to run your life now, since I’m such a shining example.
2. I shot up drugs and woke up after three days, and I’m here to tell you how to run your life now, since I’m such a shining example.
3. My kids are screwed up, and the kids of almost the entire entertainment industry’s lives are screwed up, so I’m here to give you parenting advice about how to raise your kids.
4. Hey, I am able to memorize what someone else wrote for me to say, and I can then repeat it on que. Therefore I am the smartest person on the planet, and you should listen to me on matters of ecology, global warming, and which socialist to fall on your knees and worship.
Nothing personal, but I’m not interested in the slightest, to what these people have to say.
Look at that photo of Rourke and tell me that guy isn’t seriously messed up to this day.
I believe in people being born again. And when they are, I believe you see a complete change in who they are. They take a personal interest in their looks, they shape up their lives, and are a shining example. Looking at that picture. I have little doubt Mickey has a ways to go. And when he gets there, I hope he spends a lot of time there before he tries to ‘save’ others.
Save yourself brother Rourke.
And you know this how? Give the man the benefit of doubt as Christ gives it to us all. He has damaged his future prospects in Hollywood to some degree by even the slightest hint of his Christianity.
Agreed. Only GOD knows everything about us.
The real question should always be, "is our own faith authentic?"

I don’t get, we can’t read the article so what are you posting?
Weird, this thread is just an advertisement.

Now if he would only shampoo his hair...
I dont get, we cant read the article so what are you posting?Rourke's Christianity took me by surprise. This thread helps me understand the existential dissonance of an worldly actor sharing his Christianity.
