I am not a fan of Jerry Fawell, but in this case I say well done, good thinking.

I am a Student at Liberty U, a second year cadet in its Army ROTC, and just completed the first range safety class. I am currently one of only 40 students of about 13,000 to be able to use the range. The school is great, the ROTC is top notch, and the range is sweet. Any questions? (pcchris3@hotmail.com)

I go there every time I'm in the area visiting Liberty University to renew my spirits, and pay homage to my father and his brothers. It is a very special place for me and my family.

I am not a fan of Jerry Fawell, but in this case I say well done, good thinking.

As you probably know, Jerry Falwell is now deceased and his son has taken his place at Liberty University. I'm not sure if he is also taking his father's place as pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, which was founded and led by his father for many decades.

I realize that many conservatives didn't like Falwell any more so than practically all liberals did, and I am not entirely sure why that was true. Perhaps it was because he was sternly uncompromising on matters of biblical Christian belief and practice that are offensive to those who either believe differently regarding those same matters, or to those who are hostile to Christianity in general.

Whatever the reason, he was never intimidated by the criticism and accusations that often came from highly placed sources in both Democrat and Republican administrations and Congresses, or by the smarmy inferences of immoral behavior that were slyly made to his face by his enemies in the news and entertainment media. And he was certainly not intimidated by the the hierarchy of the apostate mainline protestant denominations that have for all practical purposes renounced the Christian faith of their denomination's founders and have become little more than willing tools of America's liberal left.

I suppose that the skin-deep "Christianity" now passed off as the authentic Gospel of Christ in the majority of today's mainline denominations' seminaries has been so deeply ingrained into the fabric of those denominations that biblical Christian views on moral and social issues are no longer in vogue with either clergy or laity. As a result, it's now quite possible and acceptable to be a "Christian" and at the same time be a practicing, impenitent homosexual or a trained and licensed physician hired to kill unborn babies without offending the drastically lowered moral standards of those denominations.

OTOH, Jerry Falwell and the Liberty University faculty stood, and Jerry's son and the faculty still stand, resolutely on the biblical doctrine of salvation by grace through faith in the efficacy of Jesus Christ's atoning blood and His resurrection from death by God the Father. It is abundantly clear that not much has changed in the last 2000 years regarding true Christians and the false pretenders who are wont to persecute true believers. All those in Christ who would live godly lives and who condemn the false religions devised by man will suffer persecution by false "Christians" and the openly hostile world as surely as Jesus' disciples were persecuted to the death by the 1st century antecedents of the 21st century heretics who now dominate the mainline denominational hierarchy and clergy.

Wife's family is from the Bedford/Floyd area. Her father was a S/SGT. with the 434th Troop Carrier Group working with the gliders at Normandy.
