Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken has told a Minnesota court he would agree to the opening and possible counting of almost 1,600 still-sealed absentee ballots.

In a Saturday filing, Franken's lawyers submitted a list of absentee voters whose rejected ballots they want to give another look. About half the voter names also appear on a longer list compiled by Republican Norm Coleman. The rest are distinct from the Coleman roster.

After the tremendously fouled up election of 2000, the people of America were promised reform of the electoral system. Eight years later it still hasn’t happened. America is no better than a banana republic in this regard, with an ineffective and corrupt government unable to carry out needed reforms.

I am confused here. I thought a person’s ballot was secret. What is this bringing up names of people to decide if their ballot will count?

A runoff election is mandatory here. A third party candidate took up something like 15% of the vote.

franken only “agreed” to this because he know the fake ballots are rigged for him.

I would suspect Franken already knows what's in these ballots.
Oh, ho ho; what a co-inkee-dink! Every single ballot is for Franken! Gosh! We never would've guessed the odds of that happening, eh what?

<<Absentee not so much. When i voted, I had to sign 2 envelopes, so until ballot is separated from envelope, not necessarily secret.

What has happened to our country that someone like Al Franken could be within 50,000 votes of Norm Coleman?

This was more of a reflection of the unpopularity of George W. Bush than it is on the appeal of Norm Coleman, who I think is a pretty good guy, and quite intelligent to boot.

Why is Frakenstein even in this race? He should be on stage in some communist country like Cuba or No Korea.

Amazing how picky he is and can’t pay his taxes.

Besides being a tax cheat and he wants to cheat his way to a victory here.

Franken says, “Don’t forget me. I cheated on my taxes, too.”

Al Franken, the Minnesota Democratic senatorial candidate, apparently considers Tim Geithner and Tom Daschle to be role models. Because the unfunny former comedian still owes more than $70,000 in back taxes, interest and penalties to 17 states.

When the problems were discovered, Franken immediately threw his accountant of 18 years under the bus. The poor accountant could only say, “I’ve been told to say ‘no comment.’”

Referring to Daschle’s withdrawal, President Obama said, “Ultimately it’s important for this administration to send a message that there aren’t two sets of rules. You know, one for prominent people and one for ordinary folks who have to pay their taxes.”

If Franken’s senate bid proves unsuccessful, Obama is reported to be considering him for a position in his administration. “He has all the qualifications we’re looking for,” said one fictional administration spokesperson.

Where is the IRS that put Al Capone away for cheating on his taxes? Or not paying ‘em.

Why is Franken allowed to be running for Senate when he is a knownn tax dodge?

I think this was a very close election in Minnesota, and it shouldn’t have been close. George W. has done serious damage to the Republican Party and to the free market economy.

Yeah, thats such a SOLID Rep seat anyway, what with Wellstone dying in a plane crash and all. But it gives you another chance to bash Bush, so enjoy it while you can.

Did you sign up here so you could bash George Bush? You won’t be making yourself very many friends, I dislike you already.
