Amnesty International urges Barack Obama to suspend military aid to Israel
Telegraph UK ^ | 2/22/09 | staff

The human rights group said it found evidence that Israel and Hamas had both used weapons supplied from overseas to carry out attacks on civilians, accusing both sides of committing war crimes during the three-week conflict at the start of the year. It accused Israel of using white phosphorous and other weapons from the US and said Barack Obama had a "particular obligation" to suspend military aid over their use.

Amnesty called for the UN Security Council to enact an arms embargo until mechanisms were put in place to ensure that equipment was not used to commit violations of international law.

Shammesty International must have had a slow news years.

Back again. At least them mentioned Hamas. They never mentioned the VC and Hanoi and their war crimes during Vietnam.

Led back them by some marxist Fop - Think it was Martin Ennals. A pure leftist prick.

It’s pretty clear that the US favors Israel But, it’s not about religion or racism as the Muslims like to have everyone think. The US favors Israel simply because it is a human rights based democracy.

I guarantee that if the bordering countries had freedom of the press, freedom of religion, equality in the eyes of the law, women’s rights, and ‘real’ regular elections the US would be excited to be more even handed in all aspects of Middle Eastern policy.

However, this simply isn’t the case. The US has to deal with tyrants such as the late Yaser Arafat and Saddam Hussein, Hamas, Hezbolah, the Mullah’s in Saudi Arabia, and the nut-job in Iran. Even the more moderate regimes in Jordan and Egypt are dictatorships. What choice does the US really have but to side with Israel? They’ve simply earned the respect and the Arab side has not. Period.

Put another way, if you saw two men arguing in the street over a car accident and one man more or less looked like he had his act together and the other looked unshaven, un-kept, and was driving an old beater, who would you give the benefit of the doubt, too. It’s just common sense and human nature.

If all the countries bordering Israel want to be treated with respect, they must first earn it. The good news, is that Iraq is on the way.

I find it quite enjoyable to see how efficiently Israel puts our military aid to use showing extraordinary precision in decimating arab terrorists. Afterall, these are my tax dollars at work and I for one say continue the aid. Now, someone please pass the popcorn.

So why doesn't Amnesty demand Obama stop giving aid to Hamas?

I don't know why people donate to that fraud of an organization. It's nothing but another front for Islamic terrorist aid

Hamas is a TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.

Of course, that's why the Obamination supports them.

I for one say continue the aid.

Me too. That's a better use of money than
keeping the undeserving in their expensive
homes.

Why doesn't BO move them to a lower priced,
vacant forclosed home, which they can rent.

Also pay them if they fix it up. Of course,
let them can buy if they meet the requirements.

Israel and Hamas had both used weapons supplied from overseas to carry out attacks on civilians...

With Amnesty International, it doesn't matter that the civilians Hamas attacks tend to be shopping for groceries and carrying babies, while the "civilians" Israel attacks tend to be launching rockets and mortar rounds. If they're not in uniform, they must be civilians. I hope Amnesty doesn't get what they deserve, but only because that would mean decent people worldwide under the control of Hamas as well.

Of course then manageing ME foreign policy would be like manageing relations with Canada.

I detect a bit of sarcasm in your response. The Middle East will always remain the Middle East.

I’m just saying that shaking hands and breaking bread with leaders who didn’t ‘kill’ their countrymen to get into power is just an easier group of leaders to deal with? Don’t you agree? Or, do you like Arab leadeers that be-head their political opponents?

Seriously....the human rights record of Arab leaders (and of Iranian leaders too)) is absolutely atrocious. This simple fact greatly undercuts their credibility on the international stage. In fact, until this issue is resolved, nothing will ever get resolved.
