California GOP reprimands 6 lawmakers on taxes

SACRAMENTO — In keeping with the California Republican Party's theme of railing against taxes and those who support them, convention delegates on Sunday approved a symbolic measure reprimanding six GOP lawmakers who voted for the largest tax increase in state history.

The measure, which denies the six party funding for the 2010 election, was approved swiftly and without debate Sunday as the party's twice-annual convention wrapped up in Sacramento. An earlier version of the measure contained stronger language, calling for a censure.

Three lawmakers each from the Senate and Assembly broke ranks last week to give Democrats and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger the necessary votes for passing a compromise budget solution to the state's $42 billion shortfall.

Supporters said Sunday's resolution sends a strong message to politicians that there will be consequences for breaking their no-tax pledge.

"If you take a no-tax pledge and you vote for taxes, then you are being divisive because you know exactly what the consequences are going to be," said Jon Fleischman, a party vice-chairman from Southern California who introduced the measure.

That's not "symbolic". Money talks. The problem is, these six scumbags obviously knew what was coming and in all likelihood made a deal with the rats to get that money replaced in exchange for their votes.

The lack of communication from the National Republican party and the big talking M. Steele is telling. Let’s face it, if the GOP could not manage to do better than the old fool McCain for Prez nominee, what should we expect from them now?

Well if recent history is any indication?
Let’s see, a rather old rather foolish Bob Dole. Then there was Mr. Compassionate Conservative G.W. Bush, who it seems wasn’t a conservative after all, but in reality was a big spender.
Then Juan McLame a shameless self promoting old fool RINO turd.
So have we scraped the bottom of the barrel yet or is there still another p.o.s. out there we can nominate?
National party or a bad joke?

The California GOP is dead. I expect it to be headed towards extinction. Why vote for a party that couldn't even hold the line on taxes? Its just become an extension of the Democrats.

I can not understand why the California Republican Party continues to support Arnold Schwarzenegger. I can only suppose that the rank and file in the Assembly Republican Caucus refused to dismiss Mike Villines this past week because the party refuses to undermine our very liberal governor.

Obviously, simply not supporting the California Republican Party isn't abating their march to the left. It is approaching a point in time where sabotaging their efforts should be considered.

Perhaps Specter, Snowe, and Collins could lose their seats to Democrats more easily?

Most CA legislative districts are gerrymandered to be "safe" for the incumbent party. Withholding money from the six (only two who aren't termed-out) who broke their no-tax promises means that there is a better chance for them to be replaced by other Republicans -- preferably ones who won't increase our taxes. Hopefully the money saved can be spent on converting more Democrat districts.
