Here's the real story behind the Tea Party Protests
DC Examiner ^ | February 22, 2009 | Tapscott's Copy Desk

"Tea Party" protests have sprung up in multiple cities across the country since Congress passed and President Barack Obama signed the economic stimulus bill into law as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

As much as I rejoice in the sight of legions of fed-up Americans taking to the streets to protest the central government's colossal waste of the first fruits of their labors, it is important that people understand that the original Boston Tea Party was neither spontaneous nor a mere lark.

The Boston Tea Party was a planned act of insurrection and both the participants and cheering bystanders knew the consequences would be fateful. At The New Phampleteer, "Clarendon" goes into wonderfully interesting detail to explain the back story of the real tea party.

Did you know, for example, that the pre-arranged signal for the boarding of the three tea ships in Boston harbor was Samuel Adams announcing at a protest meeting in Fanueil Hall that "this meeting can do no more to save the country," and that planning for the event had been going on for weeks prior to that gathering?

And did you know that the price of tea would actually decrease under the parliamentary act that sparked the Boston Tea Party? Clarendon notes the significance of this key fact that is likely little known to American students today:

Most colonists applauded the action while the reaction in London was swift and vehement. In March 1774 Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts which among other measures closed the Port of Boston. The fuse that led directly to the explosion of American independence was lit.

Yes, and the point is exactly what? If the writer thinks that we who are advocating and supporting local Tea Parties do not consider such to be “act of insurrection” then perhaps we have not been direct enough in our statements so far.

I think that so far the libs see such protests as a source of amusement. Weren’t they laughing at Santelli in the White House the other day? We do need to be very direct and harsh toward those bass turds. The reason they are being so bold right now is that they think the American people are a passive bunch.

Yes, some people (i.e., the elected royalty in Versailles on the Potomac) need a knock on the head. Words mean little, for to them, it means the sheeple are still under control. Now, civil disobedience is different. THAT threatens them.

A people unwilling to use extreme violent force to perserve their liberty deservers the tyrants that rule them.

Our White House and congress are full of tyrants who have no boundries. We the people must draw the line and push them back or our liberty will be forever lost.

I saw a bumper sticker sized image on here yesterday.

Showed pitchforks and torches in silhouette with the capitol building in the background.

I pray that it will not come to that, for violence only begets violence. Destroying our republic would suit the LIB/SOC/COMM just fine. However, there is a tipping point beyond which the people will stand for no more.

Glenn Beck asked if we could be headed for a “French Revolution” instead of an “American Revolution”. Now THAT is a scary scenario.

To the dukes and duchesses in Versailles on the Potomac - keep ignoring the people, at your own risk.

Good for you Mississippi!

If this was tried in New Jersey, the Governor would have the State Police lock you up and give all of your possessions to an illegal alien.

"Glenn Beck asked if we could be headed for a French Revolution"

be headed?

A rather tempting choice of words, don't you think?

I was just thinking, are we going to be “arrested” for littering or under some EPA pollution rule?
