Would they have found another reason if he was not active in the Boy Scouts?

nope- unless it is the fact he is too honest to pay bribes
he told me the prelim vetting ended after discussion with the local party elites about his Boy Scout leadership, whihc he refuised to abandon

(in a childless marriage- his Scouts are his kids

He has mentored literally hundreds of young men in a relatively depressed blue collar area ... his Dad was a well-respected local mayor for many years, the governor came to his funeral when he died

I’m betting he had a “diverse” scout leader that liked Chris on camping trips.

Mr. Leg Tingle should be disowned by the Scouts and have his merit badges revoked!

Lets see how many of these Scout values he has abandoned:

SCOUT OATH

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

SCOUT LAW

A Scout is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, Reverent.

TRUSTWORTHY
A Scout tells the truth.
He keeps his promises.
Honesty is part of his code of conduct.
People can depend on him.

LOYAL
A Scout is true to his family, Scout leaders, friends, school, and nation.

HELPFUL
A Scout is concerned about other people.
He does things willingly for others without pay or reward.

FRIENDLY
A Scout is a friend to all.
He is a brother to other Scouts. He seeks to understand others.
He respects those with ideas and customs other than his own.

COURTEOUS
A Scout is polite to everyone regardless of age or position.
He knows good manners make it easier for people to get along together.

KIND
A Scout understands there is strength in being gentle.
He treats others as he wants to be treated.
He does not hurt or kill harmless things without reason.

OBEDIENT
A Scout follows the rules of his family, school, and troop.
He obeys the laws of his community and country.
If he thinks these rules and laws are unfair, he tries to have them changed in an orderly manner rather than disobey them.

CHEERFUL
A Scout looks for the bright side of things.
He cheerfully does tasks that come his way.
He tries to make others happy.

THRIFTY
A Scout works to pay his way and to help others.
He saves for unforeseen needs.
He protects and conserves natural resources.
He carefully uses time and property.

BRAVE
A Scout can face danger even if he is afraid.
He has the courage to stand for what he thinks is right even if others laugh at or threaten him.

CLEAN
A Scout keeps his body and mind fit and clean.
He goes around with those who believe in living by these same ideals.
He helps keep his home and community clean.

REVERENT
A Scout is reverent toward God.
He is faithful in his religious duties.
He respects the beliefs of others.

During a meeting with my left liberal state rep, he told me that he was an Eagle Scout.

As I left his office, I told my wife that even some eagles go bad.

There goes my theory that Boy Scouts build character.

Scout ranks: Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, Eagle.

My boy is a Life Scout now and on his way to Eagle. A lot of boys make it to Life and then quit because those last few Eagle required merit badges are very difficult and then there is your Eagle Project which requires a lot of time, planning, documentation and follow through. Also by the time they make it to Life, they are around 15 to 16 years old and have developed an interest in girls and are getting their driver's license etc... Scouting doesn't seem as cool as it used to be.

In my area, it may be a gathering place for some who are off the beam.

I'll be glad to show you my documentation...

Now if only His Chosenness, who gives him such a tingly feeling, would do the same!

Your cousin is a true American hero.

My son and I traveled to my home town this past summer to celebrate the 50th anniversary of my old boy scout troop.
6 of the first 10 eagle scouts (9 surviving attended).
Adult founders of the troop are still active and helping
mentor kids. My mom sewed scout neckerchiefs for almost 30 years. These people are my heroes.
