Don't discount the literal bedrock of the population. Also, don't discount the hundreds of thousands of retired and former service members who will stand and fight a decidedly foreign invader. 300,000,000 Americans. Of that number at least a third are armed. 100,000,000 folks under arms is a pretty big force. Heck if only 10% of that actually undertakes to actively meet the threat, I think there is little to fear. Hell, just the state of Texas kicked Mexican A$$ to form the Lone Star Republic.

I am convinced Patton had a little help in his untimely death, MacCarthur on the other hand was merely handcuffed and fired. Two of the greatest Generals in modern warfare.

Ever think about why Truman aggressively processed the end of WW II then suddenly went wobbly and changed our warfare policy to limited warfare madness, and we haven't won a war since.
