Proof of citizenship stymies man in hopes of getting a federal job
Posted: 02/25/2009
Abe Goteiner believes he?s voted in every U.S. election since 1966.He has an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, and in the 1970s, he had top-secret clearance at a U.S. underground nuclear test site.
He has a Social Security number and a long work history.
But now Uncle Sam wants him to pay for a certificate proving he?s a U.S. citizen.
After applying for a job in September 2008 with a contractor for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Goteiner said, he launched into a ?fight with the federal bureaucracy.?
The Overland Park resident was told he needed Form N-600, the ?Designated Certificate of Citizenship,? to pursue federal employment. And it would cost him $460.

“Rewind Goteiner?s story to his 1948 birth in Germany to parents who were concentration camp survivors. His family came to the United States in 1949 and became naturalized citizens in 1955.He has his parents? naturalization papers to prove it. But he doesn?t have his own”
