Speier bashes the spending bill (San Fran liberal eats her own)

Out of the 10 House Democrats who voted against the $410 omnibus spending bill today, one stuck out: liberal San Francisco-area Rep. Jackie Speier.

Speier bashed the spending package in a Wednesday evening statement, calling it full of pork and pet projects.

“It is not the dollar amount at issue, but the principle of spending taxpayer dollars without appropriate accountability, transparency or oversight,” Speier said in a statement.

For those not familiar with the name, Jackie Speier was an aide to the Congressman who was shot investigating the Jonestown, and was caught in the crossfire. She's always been sort of a "government watchdog" type. I can remember directing a complaint to her, years ago, regarding a consumer affairs issue. I actually got a rather long, personal reply.

I haven't followed her career at all over the years. She's certainly a lib, but probably not the worst of the lot.

She's always been sort of a "government watchdog" type.

She's also a bit of a control freak. We know her. My son had an argument with her regarding steriods - she was willing to ban steriods flat out with no thought to the medical consequences. She employed an "I know better than you" rebuttal. My son was actually relaying his mom's concerns. Mom is a RN with over 30 years of well-rounded experience.
