Pelosi tosses cold water on assault-weapon ban
The Hill ^ | 02/26/09 | Mike Soraghan

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues.

Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat “no” when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban.

“On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it's clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.”

Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who don’t want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association.

The White House declined to comment on Holder's remarks, referring reporters to the Department of Justice. The DoJ did not respond to The Hill's request for comment.

There are too many voters, now, who don't remember the great Gun Control Wars of 1990-1994 (ish). Possibly a few congressthings that don't remember them, either.

We need to dredge up all that ancient history ... make sure it doesn't happen again. Getting the sunset clause in the original ugly-gun ban was a huge stroke of luck. Or genius.

I don't want to spend another ten years waiting for it to expire, and I sure don't want to have any more idiot laws that I need to pressure my congressthings to repeal.

You have to understand, the past doesn’t have any affect on liberals. A rational argument, like the AW ban did exactly zero, has no effect. Not one vote will be swayed by that argument.

It’s a common fact, one can’t be liberal and rational at the same time.

I'm guessing they have other plans.

Besides, the 1994 ban did not work out too well for them.

Let’s be honest - we all have good reason to suspect that Attorney General Eric Holder is really working on the QT for the gun and ammo industry.

His job would be to increase sales by scaring the bejesus out of everyone who is not a card carying member of the Obama Gun Fearing Wussie Socialist Party.

Holder is probably getting a real nice slice of the increased profits from the skyrocketing gun and ammo sales caused by the wacky statements he makes about gun control laws.

Bullets are worth real money, dollars, not so much so. Ammo has appreciated by about 40% in the last year. Bet you wish you had bought a trailer load last year.

The barter economy is coming.

“Believe her!!!? Hell NO!”

I agree. It is the Democrat version of Good Cop/Bad cop.

With the Democrats, Don’t believe everything you hear and only half of what you see.

They are pathological liars from the President on down.

As the Israelis say, “Never Again.”

This may be the year or penultimate year that real Americans go to jail in droves.

They’ll hide little provisions here and there in spending bills,

things like domestic violence accusations, or if you’ve ever been diagnosed as depressed or prescribed with Xanax, etc,

you’ll be disallowed from owning.

The left, following their father’s example, do everything by stealth and deception.

There is NO downside to buying it NOW...

Just a question - that thing must be way pricey to even still be ON the shelf.

If she opened her mouth, she lied. You can take another AWB to the bank (if there are still banks left after the Obama Depression).

How drunk could you get if you had a shot every time BHO, Pelosi and Reid blame Bush / Cheney for everything?

Enough to make Teddy "da swimmer" Kennedy look like a tee-totalling lifelong Baptist Preacher?

That was my thought. I bought a Bushmaster in 6.8 SPC in September for $900, and the most recent one to sell on Gunbroker.com went for $1400!

Time to start hiding the weapons and ammo you want to keep. A stash of non-perishable food and a water filtration kit is also advised.

I was out white-water conoeing recently, and the canoe tipped over. Every gun I own went to the bottom.

Crying shame, that.

I remember. They had several of the most widely used shot size they would split up. Did it myself several times with money I got from picking blueberries, cherries, asparagus, and picking up pop bottles. (of course I was only 13 and didn’t know I was poor.

I smell fear.

lol I had already written my representative and both senators, who are all on record as opposing the AW ban.

I’d say this is still cause to ‘go shopping’.

IOW, they will sneak the ban through in the next 1000 page legislation that no one reads! IF that's not the case, then we can be assured that they know how many people have been buying guns and ammo since Obamanation took office.

Even a numbskull like Pelosi understands that their lives will be in danger should they attempt to ban our guns. No one bought those guns because they intended to give them back if they were banned. They bought them for the revolution that's coming down the road.

She’s probably waiting for the next mass shooting to provide cover for passing AWB II.
