O’Reilly has created an on-air characterture of himself as spokesman and crusader for the common man. A lot of his audience buys into it. He mixes in tabloid stories to attract the lowest common denominator of TV consumer which includes Democrats and apoliticals. But he'll also have Newt Gingrich or Karl Rove doing analysis. So viewers that like the two-headed dog stories are also absorbing conservative commentary. This is a formula Rupert Murdock first used in his print media. CNN tries to pretend that TV news is not entertainment while FOX exploits it.

O’Reilly will have Gingrich and Rove on, but if they stray from O’Reilly’s perception of reality, or position on an issue, her interrupts them, talks over them, or ‘moves on’. I watch the show, but except for a couple of things he cares about and acts on, O'R’s a buffoon.
