CRAPO: BUDGET INCREASES BOTH SPENDING AND TAXES

Says bipartisan efforts needed for better path forward

Washington, DC – Noting that President Barack Obama’s new budget proposals seek an increase in both federal spending and taxes, at a time when Idahoans are having to cut back on their family budget, Idaho Senator Mike Crapo called for new bipartisan efforts to find a path forward that will be better for the economy and taxpayers. Crapo, a member of both the Senate Budget and Finance Committees, said the Fiscal Year 2010 proposal would double the debt owed by U.S. taxpayers in five years.

“I don’t doubt the President’s sincerity and remain willing to work with him to craft a plan to deal with our economic crisis, but we can’t spend more than $3 trillion, raise taxes and expect the private sector to respond with new job creation,” Crapo said. “We can’t spend ourselves into prosperity and leave mountains of debt to future generations. This proposal can be improved, and both Democrats and Republicans need to work together to craft a plan that encourages small businesses to create jobs, not punish them for being successful.”

Crapo pointed to positives in the President’s proposal. “The President has promised to go through the budget line by line, to eliminate the programs that do not work or do not effectively spend taxpayer dollars,” he said. “Unfortunately, the document we received today, while very thorough in describing spending increases, is very light on proposed spending cuts. Those ideas must be fleshed out. In the meantime, I remain concerned that tax increases on business and those who invest in our economy will hamper our recovery efforts. Retirees will be among those hardest hit by plans to increase capital gains taxes. Job creation will be stymied by new higher taxes and increased debt, which crowds out private sector investment.”

Yet another release about the Pres__ent's 2010 budget that the Party Propaganda Ministry (formerly the media) doesn't think is newsworthy.

This wasn't covered anywhere.

And the last paragraph is excellent. This is great:

IMHO, people, including Senator Crapo, who is my Senator, need to quit pussyfotting around what this President is doing. IMHO, they need to drop pretense and PC speak and talk directly to what is going on.

Barack Hussein Obama is a marxist ideolog who is rapidly going about bringing the "fundamental" change he promised and that change is a dismantling and destruction of the free market before our very eyes and the replacing of it with a command economy.

“....called for new bipartisan efforts.....”

There it is again...”bipartisan”....These guys aren’t learning the lesson the Socialist/Democrats have been teaching us. There isn’t anything called “bipartisan” out there in the World of American politics anymore.

Wondering when, or if they will learn the lesson.

I am with you... was watching Boehner talk this morning and I was asking myself when are these people going to take the kid gloves off and start calling a spade a spade. Instead of telling people that we shouldn’t be raising taxes in a recession, etc, etc...yada yada yada... instead of letting the dems get away with their mantra of “it was the last 8 years of economic policy that got us into this mess”... why don’t they go out there and say point blank.. we are here b/c the dems wanted to turn the other cheek when the housing crisis was brought to their attention in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007 by the past administration. We are here b/c the dems felt it was more important to provide people with false hope inorder to make them more dependent on the government. They need to whip out the proverb of “give a man a fish and he will eat for a day... teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime”... and apply that to the agenda of the democratic party. It is not rocket science... but somehow, once these people get up to Washington, they forget how to connect to everyday people. I am tired of watching our republican leaders tiptoe around the real issues... and when these dems whip out how the tax increases of the 90’s under the Clinton Admin. helped florish the economy... our republican leaders need to smack that down by stating the facts.... if anything, the tax increases stiffled/limited the growth in the 90’s... thanks to the tax increases we will never know how strong America could have REALLY been during the 90’s....

Obama’s Budget Will Harm Small Businesses and Destroy American Jobs

Simplistic Leftist theory gets it wrong again

Few would suggest that Barack Obama would intentionally kill American jobs and persecute the small businesses that create them. Unfortunately, that’s precisely the effect of his new budget and tax scheme. By raising taxes on small business and reneging on his campaign promise to provide them capital gains tax relief, he will punish the very entrepreneurs that create most American jobs and market innovations.

Obama, of course, would righteously protest that he seeks to help small businesses, and will only raise taxes on the “wealthy” earning over $250,000. The simple truth, however, is that most taxpayers filing above the $250,000 benchmark are not individual fat cats or trust-fund babies. Rather, over 65% of them are actually small businesses, which file as individuals rather than corporations because they have fewer than 100 shareholders and do not pay dividends. Small businesses constitute 99% of employers, and employ over half of all private-sector employees in America, and many of them file above the $250,000 threshold.....

According to the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), which defines “small businesses” as those employing between 3 and 199 people, these entrepreneurs employ over 50% of the nation’s private-sector employees and account for over half of American non-farm private gross domestic product (GDP). In addition, given the dynamic nature of our economy, these small businesses create approximately two-thirds of net new jobs and provide the first job for most new entrants into the workforce, according to the NFIB, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the United States Census Bureau. In fact, America’s small businesses would comprise the world’s third-largest economy (after the United States and Japan) if standing alone, and represent an astounding 99.7% of all employers in America.
