those who believed slavery to be immoral and never even owned slaves, to begin purchasing them, beating them, raping them, and exploiting them.

This point reminded me that the Democrat Party has always been the party of slavery. Today, however, they want to enslave the rich (which is of course anyone with a job, by their twisted logic). Their slavery is slavery by proxy. They get the Federal and State governments to force taxpayers to do their bidding, providing funding for programs that those taxpayers would never fund ordinarily.

Still operating plantations, too; now, rather than cotton and sugar cane, they're planting dollars and harvesting votes.
