Pawlenty Says Republicans Need to Move Beyond Reagan to Rebuild

I think we need to move beyond lame-o double-speak politicians like Pawlenty and back to solid conservative ideas exemplified during the Reagan era.

Ravingnutter Says Republicans Need to Move Beyond Pawlenty to Rebuild

There, I fixed it. As I posted on another thread (re: third party):

The Republican party was once ours and we have let the moderate boneheads take it from us. Now they are just being bullies. We should quit bickering amongst ourselves and confront them.

I guess Brooks was right; the Republican part is still unfit to wield power. Of course Brooks is looking at the conservative part when he disapproves and I'm looking at the Pawlenty part.

Reagan was the blueprint for victory for the Republican Party and for Conservatives.

To say we must look elswhere is utter nonsense, and Pawlenty knows it.

What a dope.

He said “the face and voice and tone of the Republican Party and the conservative movement needs to be more about bread-and-butter issues for everyday people.”

The GOP is still perceived as the party of big business. And what with their last president signing a $700+150 billion bailout -- for big business.

That is where the Dems trump the Pubbies: The Dems 'appear' to be for the little guy; whereas the GOP 'appears' to be for big business.

Pawlenty is correct that the GOP needs to change the perception. But, so far, they don't have any likely frontrunners who would succeed on that message. Palin comes closer, but forces are going on behind the scenes to keep her away from a presidential bid. The straw poll winner (3rd year in a row, if that means anything) is Romney -- one of the big-business guys.

Like it says in the article, his ninth place finish in the straw poll, suggests otherwise. But I guess there will always be those who simply don't get it.

I don’t think we need to move beyond, but we have to stop comparing everyone to Reagan, that is like comparing people to George Washington, it just can’t be done. Not saying, we still can’t learn from Reagan, but it is not fair to new people to set them up for a fall because they aren’t Reagan.

As we play Jeopardy:
"I'll take 2008 Elections for $2000, Alex."

"The Jeopardy answer is, 'Tim Pawlenty and his fellow RINOs.'"

"What is the proof that a lot of Republicans did not learn a thing from the 2008 election?"

Palin better move away from the McCain position on amnesty or she is toast. I spoke to one of her influential supporters at CPAC and he agrees. He is trying to arrange a trip down to the border for her in the coming months. It is her Achilles heel.

If she persists in legalizing the status of the illegals, I will work actively against her.

to Rebuild

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If it is broke, and it is worth fixing, fix it.

If you try everything you can to fix it, and it can't be fixed, get someone who is better than you at fixing things to try and fix it.

If it becomes obvious that it ain't fixable, scrap it and build a new one. (Do what you can to make the new one better than the old one.)

One last possibility:

It's operable, but is in fact being wielded by your enemies against you, quit helping them maintain and operate it.

I wouldn’t be so annoyed by this nonsense if it wasn’t for the fact that millions of Republicans wasted their vote by voting for exactly the kind of candidate the RINO’s and lefties wanted! We ran with an empty moderate who only showed passion when poking conservatives in the eye!

We already tried to move past Reagan by voting for McCain so it’s time to reassess our strategy and return to Reagan.

The Democrats are returning to FDR and the 1930’s, certainly Reagan and the 1980’s is more up to date! Of course, the Democrats true love is Karl Marx and his “ideas”.

Pawlenty doesn’t understand the results of past elections: when Republicans stand on conservative ideas, they win. When they blur the distinction between Democrats and themselves, they lose.

As McCain's running mate she was compromising on a lot of her stances, including the bailout. Also look Joe the Plumber's statements. It was McCain's campaign.

I agree that by 2012 she needs to clearly address her position on the the border and immigration.

If she touts a McCain/Bush line we can still support another candidate. But I concur with you that this could be a deal-breaker.

Pawlenty once again shows what is wrong with Republicans.

The only three models of who can save the GOP are Reagan, Rush and Palin.

And all three are being trashed by the RINOs.

Before 2010’s elections, we will have a battle royale for the GOP. Despite soothing noises the RINOs make to conservatives, we can see with the defections of Spector, Collins, and Snowe on the porkulus bill that the GOP is not serious about opposing Obama. They are not onboard about the danger Obama is to America.

Steele, Pawlenty, McConnell and others still will not battle the Dims. They will cave on the 50 vote majority rule change—you’ll see.

Well, conservatives cannot back up anymore. If the GOP goes the way of the Whigs next year, so be it. No tears will be shed from here.

The conservative principles exhibited by Reagan, Rush and Palin are America’s only hope. Without those principles, America will fall into the mediocre level of failed experiments in liberty in human history. The rest of the world will applaud our fall, and no one will rescue us like we have rescued others.

Our generation has not been called to battle like our fathers and grandfathers for an ideal.

But we are being called.

Will we answer, for the sake of our posterity?
