Excuse Me Homeland Security Department, How Do You Lose Two Forklifts?
Independence Institute ^ | March 3rd, 2009 | Jon Caldara

One small federal agency "lost" over 2,000 items at an average cost of $3,128 per item in just one year...

The Customs and Border Patrol agency is tasked with tracking things as diverse as goods coming into the country, as well as the entry of persons (both legal and illegal) into the U.S.

Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) has a difficult time keeping possession of the very assets that enable them to do their job, items like computers, digital cameras, and night-vision goggles...

The compilation of items extends up to 58 pages, and totals $7.1 million. No fewer than 171 desktop computers ... were identified as lost.

Overall, the Department of Homeland Security identified roughly $32 million in lost, stolen or damaged property in 2007.

"Maybe the guy who took the forklift needed it to carry away all the other 'lost' stuff.”

I’m sure an illegal alien is just using the forklifts to the jobs Americans won’t do.

That’s nothing, Tucson school district (TUSD) has lost multiple walk-in refrigerators. And then they come begging us for more money.

It’s well past time to defund HSA. Let the FBI and CIA handle that stuff.

A typical problem with bureaucracies: no one knows who is responsible therefore no one is responsible, or "not my job"

Maybe the forklifts were stolen to move the Walk in Refrigerators. I mean you just wouldn’t walk off with them.

It’s really pretty simple. People working at that agency are stealing these things.

Fewer things would be ‘lost’ if the person who had it in his possession had to pay for it if it came up missing.

The funny part is nobody knows where they’d go. As far as need/ ability to use goes they’ve got all the fridges they need. But when they did an asset audit they found they’d bought two more walk-ins than they had, plus they had a few missing tractors and other stuff. TUSD has a long history of alternating between morons and crooks at the top of the food chain, not sure which group was ascendant when they “lost” the fridges.

Kind of like Philly-the school district spent $124 million on textbooks a few years ago and can’t locate them.

BTW-Arlene Ackerman, the dim bulb school superintendent, who sounds so ineffective in the artcle, gets a BASE salary of $325,000 (actually that was in ‘08—I’m sure she has gotten a raise since)

that’s okay - factor in what they stole from american citizens at airports and they’ll break even.

Betch they paid for the walk-in fridges, and never got them...

A CLASSIC method of payoffs to a vendor...

Either that or the vendor was a cousin and they really paid themselves. TUSD’s reign of stupidity has gone on since at least the Ford administration. And they always act all offended when their bonds and emergency budget overrides fail.
