Philanthropy and Its Enemies: Redistribute foundation wealth based on racial quotas
WSJ ^ | 3/3/2009 | Naomi Riley

Nonprofit leaders are reeling from the recent news that President Barack Obama's proposed budget would limit tax deductions on charitable contributions from wealthy Americans. But now the philanthropic world has something else to worry about. Today the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP), a research and advocacy group, will release a report offering "benchmarks to assess foundation performance." Its real aim is to push philanthropic organizations into ignoring donor intent and instead giving grants based on political considerations.

The committee is part of a rising tide of politicians and activists who are working to change the face of American philanthropy -- and not for the better.

The report, titled "Criteria for Philanthropy at its Best," advises foundations to "provide at least 50 percent of grant dollars to benefit lower-income communities, communities of color, and other marginalized groups, broadly defined." The committee looked at 809 of the largest foundations in the country, whose combined three-year grants totaled almost $15 billion, and concluded that the majority of foundations are "eschewing the needs of the most vulnerable in our society" by neglecting "marginalized groups."

Two years ago, an advocacy group in San Francisco called Greenlining began releasing similar reports. Greenlining's aim then was to pass legislation in California mandating that foundations report to the public the percentage of their dollars given to "minority-led" organizations....

Well if the government is going to take care of us, who needs philanthropies?

You get it. I would talk with my Pastor to see what effect it might have on churches. Many small churches could go under. The ones surviving might very well be megachurches due to their large membership.

Obama is a disaster.

What the left wants, and is being created, is a government sactioned and government run organization distributing all charity money as it sees fit. Think leftwing cronies getting lots of money, traditional do-gooders receiving very very little.

I would like to see just one foundation give a million or two to some minority group selected randomly and carefully track the money, reporting precisely where it all went. I think it would be like sending money to some of these third world countries where those in control are suddenly basking on the Riviera while the masses get the usual: nothing.

I wold be interested to see how much of that charity money ends up in Demo pockets. The number is now pretty substantial.

The answer is to donate to the charity of your choice directly. Do not pass through aggregate organization like United Way. The aggregate organizations will be the ones pressured to perform the politically correct or legally mandated distribution of their resources. The only fix is to not fill the coffers of those organizations.

Its real aim is to push philanthropic organizations into ignoring donor intent and instead giving grants based on political considerations.

And how would that be different from what the Ford and Carnegie and other run-amok foundations are doing now, since they already funds MALDEF, the Southern Poverty Law Center, ACORN, PBS, NPR and any number of other left-wing groups and initiatives?

There are a lot more whites in this country than poor blacks.

Singular racism is the proposal being made to take fromone group and give to another, based upon color.

Your church must have received a very generous endowment if it has a foundation backing it.

You’re absolutely right.

I quit giving to the United Way years ago when it became obvious that most of their donations were being funneled to left wing causes, like Planned Parenthood.

It’s not.

Charity donations also apply to churches, not just foundations.

There is a difference between a charity and a foundation. I read that article and did not see anything about charities, it is all referencing endowed foundations. I still can’t see where it would affect your church unless it has an endowment. That said, I wouldn’t put it past them to try to get their clutches on church funds as well.

HA!

WE already are the slaves and that IS a major part of the reparations. We work; they receive.
