Building MSM Consensus Obama Blowing It?
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

The graphic below David Gregory’s speaks of “despair over rescue efforts.” There’s evidence this morning that the hopelessness has reached the MSM–and that it is largely directed at the president himself. Earlier, I noted how Jim Cramer, appearing on Today, accused President Obama of promoting a “radical agenda” that is “the greatest wealth destruction I’ve seen by a president.”

Over on Good Morning America, venerable Wall Street hand Art Cashin, chatting with Chris Cuomo, similarly pointed a finger in the White House’s direction.

CHRIS CUOMO: You look at this situation, and you point a finger at the government. Their inability to get it right has let us down. Why?

ART CASHIN: I think the AIG problem yesterday was another example. We put in $30 billion on top of $150 billion, and yet nobody in the government, or even at the company, seems to have a real grasp of what the problem is . . . This seems to be addressing the problem in an ad hoc fashion without a comprehensive plan.

Ouch! But OK, Cashin is a Wall Street guy, as is Cramer. Perhaps it’s natural for them not to be big fans of Pres. Obama’s big-government designs. But then, David Gregory, who nowadays is in the moderating business and not normally given to stating strong personal opinions, expressed surprising skepticism about the Obama administration’s plans during a Morning Joe appearance . . .

Don’t get too excited, folks. When the chips are down, it will all be Bush’s fault and Hussein will be doing a heroic, Herculean job of working for the good of the people in the face of overwhelming odds.

I keep thinking that our only hope is that the MSM turns on Obama.

I agree absolutely! I would think there's some hope of it; surely these people have some money in something, and they might not be deep thinkers (cue Captain Obvious graphic!), they do have a certain sense of self-preservation. If it comes down to him or them (as seems inevitable), it won't seem so cool to be cheer-leading the first black president. (I hope!)

I think the Rush invitation at CPAC is the best thing that could have ever happened. The MSM, and millions of viewers were able to see Rush at his finest. Even the spin about “angry and harmful” from some in the MSM could not hide the fact that what Rush said probably touched a lot of people - conservatives love Americans and want everyone to succeed. I think a lot of people might have been surprised to hear that we really are the party of “yes”, not the party of “no” as the administration has tried to portray us.

When Olbermann turns on him, you’ll know the game is up.

"Mr. President, sir. You have committed economic treason, sir. Have you no shame, sir? Resign, sir."

Now, that would be epic!

The MSM is in as dire straits as the auto industry and financial markets are today. Newspapers have closed or are close to closing. There are layoffs all-round. And there’s no magic formula for remedying the situation. Yet what newspaper has been targeted for stimulus spending?

That said, the market speaks volumes. There is no confidence shown in Obama’s handling of the economy. This is evidenced by the free-fall since his election. Obama can continue to put the blame on Bush, on Rush, or on Goldilocks for that matter. But this is now his market and what has transpired since January 20th is on his watch. The MSM knows the public knows this.

All-in-all, it’s a bad situation for everyone, and no one is coming forth with a solution. One of the few speaking sense on the Republican side (well, the conservative side anyway) is Rush Limbaugh. And he’s being trashed by the GOP as well as the Obama wingnuts. It’s a heck of a situation fer sure...

Obama’s plan to blame the economy on President Bush is not going to work.

One of Rush's points in his speech to CPAC went something like this:

0bama won the nomination in August and did not say word one against the original TARP bill as a Senator or Presidential Nominee.

And when McCain suspended his campaign to sign on to the TARP and thereby blew whatever chance he had to win the election, 0bama became the de facto head of the economy and its subsequent downturn, crisis and catastrophe.

This is 0bama's mess and no one else's.

0bama owns this economy lock, stock and barrel.

Is there a cheap way to mass print that on like 3x5 stickers? I would carry them with me and paste them up all over the place.

WRONG! This is big media’s way of smoothing things over for president Urkle. They’ll ask some “tough”, softball questions and be satisfied with his reps answers. Problem solved!

Meanwhile, Hillary is overseas giving the Palestinians $ 900 million and nobody gives a rat’s a$$.

It is why opposition to Iraq never took hold.

I am a strong supporter of OIF, and defend GWB's Iraq policies fiercely whenever I hear anyone spouting moonbat talking points about it. Unfortunately, the White House didn't show the same amount of zeal in its defense. IMO, the treasonous 'Rat/DBM propaganda that was spread about Iraq eventually became accepted as fact by a majority of voters and was the biggest reason for the 2006 and 2008 electoral debacles.

The inability of the Bush Admin to adequately make the case for the Iraq war will no doubt be remembered by honest historians (if any exist) as one of its biggest failures.

Journalists like Gregory make a lot of money. Their 401K’s and other investments are evaporating, too. They may be waking up to the horror that holding your 401K statement close and whispering over it that it's all Bush's fault doesn't add one penny to the account. If Obama succeeds in wrecking the economy, those guys go down the crapper with the rest of us.

When enough of them realize that he is picking and choosing who gets to ask him questions and when they have had enough of their portfolios tanking, maybe they’ll turn on him.

Wives 51 through 100 of the 0bama Press Harem seem to be becoming a bit "frustrated" already.

I have pointed this out, and Rush commented on it today also. The politicians who are backing Obama, and the MSM must be starting to be aware that their own jobs or fortunes, and the fortunes and jobs of their families and friends might be at risk also. They can no longer stand back and disassociate themselves from the consequences of their decisions. Their decisions have the possibility to literally impoverish them and I am really praying that this starts to bring some sense to what they are doing.

While I think his policies are fundamentally flawed and that even there he is blowing it... I’d be surprised if liberals feel that way.

Yes, but it needed lots of bodybags to get actual traction. They never came, thank God.

I’m with you on this though.

A guy working for a contractor moving equipment from Iraq to Afghanistan explained our presence in Iraq very well. He said that when you play tic-tac-toe and get the first move, you always start in the center square for obvious reasons.

Iraq is the center square.

I think the Rush invitation at CPAC is the best thing that could have ever happened. The MSM, and millions of viewers were able to see Rush at his finest.

And the concepts in that speech are exactly what led to two Reagan landslides.

And actually had carry over to the Bush landslide against Dukakis.

As this economy affects more and more people, the backlash will be stronger and stronger. Eventually it will hit critical mass.

Critical mass may be closer than we all think.
