Rust Belt in Revolt (Midwest Democrats balking at cap and trade?)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | March 4, 2009 | John Fund

Most of President Obama's dramatic budget changes are likely to pass Congress, but expect even many Democrats to question his plan to create a "cap-and-trade" program for carbon dioxide. The plan would bring in some $646 billion over the next ten years according to the Obama budget office. The vast majority of the revenue supposedly would be used to create tax cuts for low-income families.

Democrats from Rust Belt states are already skeptical. Their region would be hit hard by the new rules, especially those with large coal industries. A total of 15 Senate Democrats have signed a letter urging that any cap-and-trade legislation "ensure that consumers and workers in all regions of the U.S. are protected from undue hardship." Those signing included Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin of Michigan, Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Jim Webb of Virginia, Evan Bayh of Indiana, Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Ben Nelson of Nebraska.

Remember McCain and Goober will be for this, let alone Snowe Job, Spector, and Collins.

The Voting public had more information on Bristol Palin than we had on BHO-—thanks to the MSM!

They are going to get a welfare rebate check.... and O is calling it a tax cut. What they are not talking about with all this taking the over $200K tax from 35 to 39% is O wants to uncap SS income that is an additional 13% for the employee and employer... and a huge tax increase.

How does tax bring in revenue when there is nothing of value moved from Party A to Party B?

It is just moving profit margins down and transferring that wealth from people and companies to the Government.

It’s theft...under the guise of saving the planet.

Low income families don’t pay taxes so how do they get a tax cut?

And, how much does a tax cut cost, and where can I buy one?

Yep, John probably should have pointed that out.

That’s right. All this is “political cover“ for them ...

Every human being in America will be TAXED. Just watch your electricity bill go up and up and up. Brown outs will become rampant. No TV, no video games, no internet. Maybe the MTV generation will finally see through their Messiah when he does nothing to help them get electricity. No hot water, no hair dryers, back to the stone age of Obama.

Maybe the folks in the Rust Belt figured out that they may freeze next winter if Cap and Trade becomes law.

Our power bills went up ~30% last fall. Another 30% or 40% would be a real crusher in this economic climate. It could certainly push more people into foreclosure.

Don’t be so sure about Brown.

Indeed - the dumbass got a free ride on Air Force One - he's bought and paid for. Of course, being an ex-Ohioan, I know that he's as crooked as they come anyway.

They don't - they get a welfare check disguised as a "tax cut". This is all about making whitey pay, and they'll destroy the world economy to achieve that goal. Soon, we'll all have grass huts just like Obambi's Kenyan brother. When everybody's poor and hungry, his goal will have been achieved.

Obambi and the democrats' goal is to turn the US into Zimbabwe.

CEO of Duke Energy was on Kuldow last night, (and Glenn Beck was Talking about the Kansas Gov.), here are some of the points of the banter,

1.) We have gone from Cap and Trade to Cap and Pay.

2.) Nuke the solution to CO2 is not in the picture.

3.) We get 50% of our electricty from coal? where will it gome from now?

4.) Electric rates will go up 40%.

5.) Shift from midwest ultilites to a west coast (as if they will build more plants?).

6.) Coal is 6 cent per KWH, Windmills are 11 cents per KWH

None of this makes any sense. We are so screwed with this crowd....

And all that money is going to provide tax relief to lower income people whose energy expenses will go up????

How the heck is he going to pay for his clean green energy programs? Does he really want to start phasing out fossil fuels, or does he want a new source of tax income?

Something-doo economics? Anyone? Anyone? Voo-doo economics?

don’t get overly optimistic. These Senators are simply asking for an exemption for their states. The remainder of the red states will be asked to pay the difference.
