Lincoln took steps towards his goal.
Lincoln often worked with those who did not share his views, but did not care as much about the issue.

The radical prolifers want a “Human Life Amendment” making all abortion illegal, nationwide.

Anything less than that, they pretty much consider to be a compromise. Yes, I would support the final goal that the radicals have, but it is not possible to do this all at once.

There is nothing at all wrong or immoral about doing the best we can, today, and coming back tomorrow to fight for more.
