Yep! If it is “only” on the table (a typical BS term for fence-sitters) and hasn't already been (or about to be) implemented, you are correct.

Pat Toomey’s loss in 2004 was heartbreaking, especially given the fact that (i) Specter survived solely because of robocalls made on his behalf by President Bush and Senator Santorum and (ii) having Specter instead of Toomey on the ballot actually hurt President Bush in 2004, given that it reduced conservative turnout in the T and increased liberal turnout in the Philly metro area (and those voters Specter brought out voted for Kerry).

If Pat Toomey challenges Specter, conservatives that are considering a run should step aside and run for another office. Toomey would make an outstanding Senator, would be well positioned to win the general election, and deserves a rematch.

My first choice was Fred also. But the good conservatives got punted early as we all know.
We are being sabotaged.

“Romney would have made a much better president than Obama.”

That has been my point all along. The RNC took their own path and propped up McCain.
McCain barely looked different than Obama. Trying to collect the “centrist” vote didn’t work now did it?

We keep ending up with bad candidates because the people don’t push the RNC with this very kind of challenge.
When there is a challenge, everyone wants to bail and run scared when the MSM throws in their two cents worth of discord.
If we don’t stop the infighting and see the real enemy it’s all over.

Specter survived the primary because Democrats flooded it (since Hoeffel’s nomination wasn’t in doubt). If non-party switching Republicans had been those participating, Toomey would’ve prevailed by several points. But Santorum deserved all scorn imaginable, along with Rove & the WH, for giving the stamp of approval to a senile and extremely ill liberal.

Thanks for the info. Rather idiotic law - why have parties then? It seems to me that the parties themselves should set the rules on how they want their candidates selected.

Yes, absolutely right on. It's called Freedom of Association.

There has also been speculation that Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey (who ran against Murtha in 2006) will run against Snarlin’ Arlen. I remember when Irey agreed to an interview on FR.

IMHO, the Specter needs to find a new haunt.
