PARKER COUNTY – As an intruder roamed around her home, a woman repeatedly dialed 911 and received no answer.

Laverne Hokett woke up one February night to the sound of someone breaking down her back door.

"It's a thousand wonders I haven't had a heart attack," she said with tears welling up in her eyes. "I was so afraid."

After dialing 911 several times with no answer, Hokett called her daughter, Deborah Turpin, who lives nearby. Hokett then tried 911 again as the man inside her home screamed.

As Turpin and her husband headed to her mother's home, Hokett sat alone in her dark room and decided to call her neighbor.

"Well, he couldn't find the bullets to the gun," she said of her neighbor.

WTH is the point of paying taxes? That is what they are supposed to be for.

The govt has let its citizens down in EVERY way possible.

Good grief! I’d shoot first, call 911 later.

911 is a joke

Yep. Lots of police departments now tell you to call 911 for any police need, rather than only in real emergencies. Some don't even publish a number to call for less serious events.

Not hard to figure out what happens when the emergency number becomes the everything number.

About a year ago, in Madison,WI a nice college student studying to be a doctor, was being murdered in her apartment in the middle of the day, she was able to dial 911 as she was being attacked, the 911 operator hung up on her. Not only that, the operator did not follow procedure and call the number back. The poor girl’s boyfriend discovered her body. Perp still at large one year later. Liberal land. No justice for the innocent.

Don’t call 911, use 1911.

Although I don’t want to even think of shooting a 1911 indoors at night, sans ear muffs. But I’ll do it if necessary.

"Someone's broken into my mother's home," Turpin replied. "I'm sitting here with a gun on him, and if he doesn't behave I'm going to kill him. ... We've both got guns on him. He's sitting here crying and bawling."

I wonder if you can sue an intruder for the cost of getting the brown and yellow stains out of your carpet?

WTH is the point of paying taxes?

To pay someone to come take away the body(ies) and maybe clean up the mess. The police have no ability to affect whose body that might be.

In this case, if the intruder had not immediately submitted to the armed daughter and son-in-law, it would have been his. If he'd been truly interested in killing her, it would have been the "old lady".
