Go to the website and watch the video they have posted on the homepage. It’s very good at explaining what Twitter is.

The first time I heard about twitter was last fall when that Republican woman staged that phony attack by cutting an obama sign into her face. The police said that she used Twitter.

As for the lefty nature of Twitter, Hugh Hewitt had a thread on there for his radio show. For a while, Twitter had shut down his thread because it was too conservative. But his thread is back up and running.

The greatest feature of Twitter is its search feature. If you want instant news on an item, more than likely someone is Tweeting about it. Search for the term of your interest, and Twitter will give you instant updates of the latest tweets containing the term.

Google search cannot keep up with this feature.

To borrow a tool of the left, but probably accurate as far as this goes:

Twitter

"..Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service. It enables its users to send and read other users' updates (known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can send and receive updates via the Twitter website, SMS, RSS (receive only), or through applications such as Tweetie, Twitterrific, and Feedalizr. The service is free to use over the web, but using SMS may incur phone services provider fees..."

It looks like the main attraction is the ability to send and receive messages over mobile phones. This would draw young people who heavily use those devices. You can take it out of the house and say what you want. It is freedom from parents etc. and is cheaper than a car and insurance and it is not like most will need greater than 140 characters per reply.

"what’s next? a return to morse code!!!!"

don't knock it, I had to learn morse code at one time in the Marine Corps!! Even used it a couple of times, but it was just to see if we could do it.

I guess what I was saying is that I think some of this stuff out there is useless. For instance, text messaging. Do we need to be in an instant discussion with people 24/7? No one is suggesting going back to the stone ages. What some people suggest is that some of this stuff is fairly useless and perhaps twitter falls into that category. Sort of like when we tried to use morse code on an operation. Nice thing to have I guess, but overall in today's day and age pretty useless.

If you have a love of all things text messaging or ringtones, I did not mean to offend and don't take it too personnel. I did not intend it that way.

That reminds me, I need a carbon paper roll for mine.

I would hold that stock, btw, unless you could use the capital losses this year for tax purposes.. ;-)

Jim, I use Twitter sparingly and use FaceBook to get in touch w/old friends. Karl Rove and John Boehner have Twitter accounts....they use them to update folks on what is happening.

I look at these things as mere tools. The left can use them, just as the RIGHT can use them...Satan and God use the same tools of culture—one for evil, one for good.

We need to start using these tools better than the Democrats. Rush acknowledged the left is better at using “Twitter” than Republicans are at the moment. We must change that. :)

You are correct. I live near a bunch of pagans and have heard them talk about how happy they are to answer the call and pour out into the streets. This is one of their tools, why should we not use it as well?

“Let’s create a Free Republic Tweeter Network - two can play this game. We can post instant Freep Tweets and move thousands of Patriotic Freepers in seconds!”

a twitter here, a tweet there. They are just a few little trees when the liberals have the entire forest. We need to have a bigger focus than just the scraps of a liberal dominated media/cultural/academic establishment.

I know a lot of conservatives who twitter, blog, use facebook etc. One is my nephew who is very conservative. Those are all communications tools that can be used for good as well as evil and are hardly being “invaded”; it’s just that many conservatives have not yet adopted ways to use these tools to their advantage.
