Obama: Bush did it, why can't I?

When you spend an entire campaign presenting yourself as the anti-Bush, is it just a tad disingenouos to claim that you are simply doing the same things President Bush did?

The New York Times buried the lead today in an article presumably about Barack Obama's suggestion that the United States should reach out to "moderates" in the Taliban. I'm going to leave alone, for a moment, the wisdom of this idea and focus on the bigger issue presented in the story:

“I don’t think that people should be fearful about our future,” he said. “I don’t think that people should suddenly mistrust all of our financial institutions.”

As he pressed forward with ambitious plans at home to rewrite the tax code, expand health care coverage and curb climate change, Mr. Obama dismissed criticism from conservatives that he was driving the country toward socialism. After the interview, which took place as the president was flying home from Ohio, he called reporters from the Oval Office to assert that his actions have been “entirely consistent with free-market principles” and to point out that large-scale government intervention in the markets and expansion of social welfare programs began under President George W. Bush.

First off, President Obama has done everything in his power to generate public mistrust "of all our financial institutions." Ignoring that as well, let's look at the rest of this statement...

Climate change can't be curbed, but everyone's wallet will be a heck of a lot lighter.

Who's shocked? Obama is just a punk and everyone knows it.

He thinks he's Teflon because he can pull out the old “It's Bush's Fault” routine. That works for nutcase bloggers living in Mommy's basement, but like it or not, Obama is the POTUS.

He is just proving what a weak “leader” he is every time he opens his mouth and makes an excuse for his failures.

Obamunism, the fatal cure for Bush Derangement Syndrome. It's getting more obvious every day.

I am tired of the democratic retort every time someone mentions the fact that Obama is instituting socialist policies, “Bush started it with the Wall Street bail out.”

I want to point out that in the weekend when this happened back in September, Treasury Secretary Paulson and Fed Chairman Bernanke practically had a gun to the nation’s head. They said, “If we don’t do something, the financial system will fail.” If it were Reagan in office, the reply would have been, “Nonsense. And if they do, so be it. We’ll build a Bank of the United States and it will take over Fannie, Freddie, The Fed, Citi, Lehman, Bear Stearns the 50 or so regional banks that have failed and anyone else who doesn’t know how to run a business. But we will not bail out failures so they can keep failing on the taxpayers’ dime.”

Well, it wasn’t Reagan...it was an exhausted George Bush hobbling toward the finish line after being maligned worse than any other president I can recall over the past eight years. Bush took the bait and we got the bailouts. However, the Obama Administration and their supporters should be reminded that a mistake under pressure is not corrected through compounding it. Pointing to Bush as the instigator is childish. What Bush did and when he did it were the product of timing and circumstances. Obama has been able to close Gitmo, reverse stem cell research, undo post 9/11 security policy yet he seems unable to undo anything that smacks of socialism and market control? Give me a break. As they say down in Georgia,”That dog won’t hunt.”

Bush’s policies were corporatist. Obama’s are similar, but with more direct socialism.

Really? Why do why have the 2nd highest corporate tax rate of any developed nation, then?

Hay, it's not the financial institutions we mistrust, it's Zero and the government lib's that we don't trust. Actions speak louder than words. Husein is killing the markets and the country. Amen.

I do believe the Congress that passed the law for the first bail out was controlled by the dummocrates and the great one was one of the Senators (albeit so did McLame) who voted for it...so it is hardly a Bush only thing.

I hope that any discussion with the Taliban takes place by the Zero personally. Only he can communicate his hope and change policy. Furthermore, he can build a bridge to them on his name alone. Frankly, I will personally pay the air fare to get him there.

Bush was in a no win situation, he did not have the leverage of time to change policy. Strike one. Anything that was going to be done was going to have to have the acquiescence of a Bolshecrat Congress. Strike two. McCain went along. Strike three. 0bama went along for the ride, smug that his shear presence was going to save the day.

Listening to some of his speech before the saved government police jobs in Columbus, the only thing I could tell was that it was all about him and the only difference between listening to him and a Castro or Chavez speech was about 3 to 4 hours.
