Barack Obama 'too tired' to give proper welcome to Gordon Brown

Barack Obama's offhand approach to Gordon Brown's Washington visit last week came about because the president was facing exhaustion over America's economic crisis and is unable to focus on foreign affairs, the Sunday Telegraph has been told

Sources close to the White House say Mr Obama and his staff have been "overwhelmed" by the economic meltdown and have voiced concerns that the new president is not getting enough rest.

British officials, meanwhile, admit that the White House and US State Department staff were utterly bemused by complaints that the Prime Minister should have been granted full-blown press conference and a formal dinner, as has been customary. They concede that Obama aides seemed unfamiliar with the expectations that surround a major visit by a British prime minister.

But Washington figures with access to Mr Obama's inner circle explained the slight by saying that those high up in the administration have had little time to deal with international matters, let alone the diplomatic niceties of the special relationship.

Allies of Mr Obama say his weary appearance in the Oval Office with Mr Brown illustrates the strain he is now under, and the president's surprise at the sheer volume of business that crosses his desk.

A well-connected Washington figure, who is close to members of Mr Obama's inner circle, expressed concern that Mr Obama had failed so far to "even fake an interest in foreign policy".

I love the way they wrote that article, and you may be right about the DVD’s. What a stupid thing to give Brown. I doubt if he has the time or desirer to watch a bunch of stupid hollywood garbage. Obama should resign.

“...new president is not getting enough rest...”

Poor baby! wah wah wah

And he only has Rahmbo to help him. He ought to be losing lots of sleep. He appears to have reached the top of his abilities.

The only thing he can do well is read a teleprompter. And those are speeches created by speech writers. They don’t have much to do with reality. IMO

You can’t fake something you have no understanding ...

BINGO!
Russia helps Iran get nukes
Russia invades Georgia
Russia supports Chavez et al.
Russia squeezes Ukraine
Russia cuts off gas to Europe

Obama and Hillary give Russia a “reset” button...YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most likely it is an after the fact made up story to counter a reasonably liberal paper’s stinging criticism (likethe Gore weak bladder).

If it is true then they are admitting that Obama is not up to the job (and the media ridiculed cat naps of the oldewr Persident Reagan are far more needed by Obama than they were by Reagan).

Irresponsible and dangerous of Obama either way.

Yes - not only gathering his thoughts, but remaining calm so that the kids and the entire school were not set into panic/alarm mode.

President Bush was the epitome of darned if you do, darned if you don’t. Frankly, I miss him.

Our last real journalist was Russell Baker, who won the Pulitzer Prize for autobiography in 1982. Baker credited his writing style to having read the reporting of UK newspapers.

Perhaps Obama should have spent a little more time actually *working* as a senator (rather than voting “present” so often), before running for an office where the Peter Principle is so clearly defined by his presidency.

Too late now.

I feel like writing a letter to the British newspapers apologizing for the lack of respect that baboon in the WH has for anything and anyone who does not bolster his image.

Whine, whine, whine, excuse, excuse ad infinitum, funny to me that President Bush seemed TIRELESS when it came to greeting and honoring foreign dignitaries, ESPECIALLY our allies. I was involved in protocol in the Navy (not planning, just being a part of ceremonial protocol) and Pres. Bush (to me) had outstanding manners and his timing was excellent. That points to outstanding staff and gives much credit to the President also.

Sure, there were times that you wondered if Pres. Bush was not going to be able to complete the thought while speaking but he always did and one thing for sure, compared to this ZERO, he was a giant in dignity and manners and let's make sure we add Laura Bush to those kudos also!

He said that on several occasions the president has had to hurry back from eating dinner with his family in the residence and then tucking his daughters in to bed, to conduct urgent government business. Matters are not helped by the pledge to give up smoking.

Oh goodie. Not only is Obama folding under the pressure, since he's unqualified, but he's going through nicotine withdrawal too. That'll make him real cool in crisis.

We are so screwed.

-Apparently not if he’s tired after yet ANOTHER White house party.

They said the office of President had gotten to big for any one man during the Carter era.

Reagan changed that. :)

Now they’re already saying it again......
