Border arrests drop to 1970s levels
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 8th, 2009 | Richard Marosi

Arrests of illegal immigrants on the U.S.-Mexico border have fallen to levels unseen since the 1970s as the ailing U.S. economy and enhanced enforcement appear to be deterring people from trekking north.

"The apprehension level is on track to dip to about 550,000 for this federal fiscal year, the lowest level since 1975, when 596,796 immigrants were caught, according to Border Patrol statistics."

What is the ratio of successful illegal crossings for every one arrest? Even if it is a 1 to 1 ratio, that's over 17.3 million using the lowest year's arrest figures! Yet there are only 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States! I'm guessing that 10 or 20 to 1 is more realistic, meaning there have been 170 to 340 million illegal crossings since 1975! Who needs a fence!

Sadly, I'm afraid this is the least of the problems facing our Country.

Due more likely to the fact that more BP agents don’t want to go to jail for doing their jobs.

Wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that because our economy is down, there’s less to steal?

A guest on Fox News this morning stated that Obama, Pelosie, and Reed pulled a House provision that would have required that job applicants created by the stimulus bill would need to be “ID Checked” on a federal database to verify immigration status. “Millions of tax dollars will be going to hire illegal immigrants!”

Sophisticated tunnels and submarines now being used.

Oh wait those modes are for drug trafficking not human traffic.

Most likely this is due to the economy. They’re not crossing over because there aren’t any jobs for them here.

The point is we’re on track for 550,000 arrests this year! How many aren’t caught? The article ends with deported Mexicans waiting in to cross again stating “we’re hungry”. Obama and Pelosie and Reed, and Tyson and Ronald (McDonnal’s) will make sure they have jobs as it keeps business costs down!

Last I read, the official estimate was 1 in 3, and the unofficial (agents) estimate was 1 in 10.

When it comes to illegal immigration, I lost faith in official estimates in the late 1980s. At that time Reagan was told that there were only one million illegals inside the United States. He agreed to the amnesty and three and a half million signed up for amnesty.

I believe the agents on the ground. They have been stating that they only capture ten to fifteen percent for decades.

One other reason why I don’t trust official estimates, is that after corrections to the 2000 census, there were close to 10 million illegal immigrants inside the United States.

After eight years of people pouring across the border at 1.5 to 3.5 million per year, we are told there are only 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States. Bull ——ing shit!

Either there are between 20 to 35 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. today, or our government has been transitioning them to citizenship at an incredible rate.

And if they were, then the only change in the drain on our nation, is that they are now legal immigrants, and our government services are now being tapped legally. The nation is still at risk, but now what is destroying it is partially above board, due to under the table dealings.

That is only the Yuma Sector.

The Yuma Sector is only about 120 miles of the border, it has been overwhelmed with manpower, and resources, and has been used as an example that the border is secured. The rest of the border is nowhere near secured, there have been increases in resources in most areas of the border, but not nearly enough to accomplish what has been done in the Yuma Sector.

“That’s why the murder rate is up. Illegals murdering the Americans that Americans are unwilling to murder for themselves.”

The murder rate is up? Since when? The per capita murder rate is the same now as it was in 1966. It was much higher throughout the 1970s, 80s, and most of the 90s than it is now. It's been pretty flat since about 1999, always around 5.6 or 5.7 murders or non-negilgent homicides per 100,000 people. In 1980 it was 10.2 per 100,000 in inhabitants.

I know. I posted that to imply you can get a secure border if ‘we’ want it.

Arrests may be down, but with friends like Nancy Pelosi things are looking up for them.

Pelosi is Unamerican.
