After saying the economy has fallen off a cliff, legendary investor Warren Buffett this morning rapped political leaders for not being united enough in dealing with what he called an economic Pearl Harbor about six months ago.
Buffett, who supported Barack Obama in the election, didnt let Democrats skate, but he particularly singled out the GOP.
They really do have an obligation to support things that are clearly designed to fight the war in a big way, Buffett said on CNBCs Squawk Box this morning.
I think that the Republicans have an obligation to recognize this as an economic war and realize you need one leader, he said in a pitch for leaders to unite the way they did after Pearl Harbor.
But he also said he understood why the GOP might gripe, since the Democrats have been using the crisis to push all sorts of things.
You cant expect people to unite behind you if youre trying to jam a bunch of things down their throat, Buffett said.
The Oracle of Omaha also hasnt been entirely impressed with the way the White House and Congress have been explaining the huge problems to America.
Weve had muddled messages, he said.
Nevertheless, he echoed President Obamas position that government has a huge role to play in getting the economy working again, which Buffet said could take five years if things go poorly.
Government is going to play an enormous factor in how fast it (confidence) comes back, Buffett said.

I've got a better idea - 0bama and his thugs should unite behind The Country, instead of trying to destroy it.
I think perhaps that Buffet has completely lost his marbles. I wonder, seriously, if this crisis has caused him to go just a little bit insane. It must have been a pretty good ‘ouch’ when Bill Gates sold all his Berkshire Hathaway stock.
Dear Warren: No thanks and fvck off.
Not to sound like some crazy conspiratorial (no matter how much they seem to make good senes) but Warren Buffet is one of the power elite who is going to be living high and mighty no matter what happens. Besides, socialism and communism are great systems for the 1% in charge. Granted, it’s kind of lousy for the other 99% but the power elite and the MSM and our politicians have never cared about them in the first place.
Uh, yeah RIGHT! It will be a cold day in hell!
If I were Jimmy Buffett, this would give me plenty of song-writing material ;)
Yes, this is an economic war - that capitalism is trying to defend itself from those who wish to sweep this nation into marxism/communism. And, no, conservatives should not unite behind Obamaisia. Instead, we should unite against this attack against the free market. Buffet should stick to making money and stay out of the political arena.

If this is a Pearl Harbor, why are we being asked to support the president who wishes to arm us with pointy sticks? His economic “policy” (if it can be called that) consists of outmoded tax & spend policies that have been proven to NOT WORK.
Mr Buffet,
that cliff the economy went over
.......... jump !
Buffet also thought Californians were undertaxed - what an idiot
This is the 'hope and change' Mr. Buffett voted for.
Why, so we can follow the economy off the cliff?
Maybe if he squeals like a pig.
