President Barack Obama says human cloning is "dangerous, profoundly wrong" and has no place in society.

Why? If clones can be created without risks to their health, why shouldn't cloning be a viable option for those who for whatever reason can not reproduce using the normal methods? Give those genes another lifetime to pass themselves on.

I don’t know why it’s “profoundly wrong” either. It may not be the most natural way to start a human life, but neither is IVF. People get weird with cloning.

Too many sci-fi movies, maybe. Like the clone is a monster. Or the clone will emerge fully grown, with a lifetime of memories and personality and ready to take the place of the original.

They seem to forget that we have all dealt with clones, and there’s nothing monstrous about them. We call them identical twins. And they are more alike in terms of age and circumstances of upbringing than any clone of an adult ever could be.

So I don’t get it.
