It would have been richly deserved. Evo Morales is one of the nuttiest of the nutty. He and his MAS movement took a country that was struggling towards political and economic stability and turned it into an insane little police state where they are running around with dried llama fetuses, hoping to revive the pre-Christian religions, and trying to turn a gas and petroleum producing country into a narco-state.
I was in Honduras a few years ago with a church mission for about 10 days. We had half a dozen doctors with us who would spend the day administering medical care in some of the poorer villages around Tegucigalpa. I was on a construction crew and we built a simple concrete-block house with slab floors and a tin roof for a family in a little village in the mountains. People were friendly everywhere we went and seemed surprisingly apolitical. I’m going to try to return with the same group next year.
