Kernell was able to gain access to the account after successfully guessing the “secret” questions Yahoo uses as part of its password recovery system. He then posted screenshots of email messages, photos and a contact list on Wikileaks.org, a web site that hosts leaked government and corporate documents and information.

In addition to the sole charge of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, Kernell now stands accused of wire fraud, obstruction of justice and identity theft. Kernell pleaded not guilty to all the charges. His trial was pushed back from May until October because of the new charges filed in the case.

If convicted, he’ll face 18 to 24 months in federal prison and will have to pay a fine ranging from $4,000 up to $40,000.

It would be nice if the media would remember to call her Governor Palin.

You said — “How is this different from Watergate? He should rot in prison.”

Well, if the prosecutor was inclined to “cut a deal” then perhaps that would happen (i.e., that he might not go to jail). However, the prosecutor, at this point in time, does not appear to want to cut a deal.

So, “to jail he goes”.... LOL...

With Nixon they “cut a deal”... that simple... (the same as prosecutors all over this country do every day with criminals...)

I knew a girl who was a prosecuter. She said that stupid kids who did stupid things would always whine the same thing to her, "I was only joking!"

Her standard response was simply, "You laugh too hard, you cry."

If memory serves me right, Ford was "preemptively" pardoning him...

BTW my "Watergate comment" refers to the nature of the crime... I don't see the media and public outrage over this one.
