The state budget that Gov. Jon Corzine unveiled yesterday calls for the elimination of property tax deductions on state income taxes next year, raising about $420 million to help offset spending. For middle-class New Jerseyans, however, the missing deduction could pack an extra punch: They also would lose their property tax rebates under the governor's proposal for the fiscal year beginning July 1.
The $29.8 billion proposal represents "tough choices to do the right thing," Corzine told a joint session of the Legislature. As he promised to protect children, the elderly and the working poor, the governor asked others to sacrifice, proposing tax increases on businesses and the wealthy and demanding a wage freeze and furloughs for state workers.

With so many things that could have been eliminated or reduced (unions, state workers, "arts" programs, etc.), the Democrats decided that THIS was the smart move. Can't wait to see the fallout from this.
So you pay property tax to your town, but your state won’t let you deduct it. Cute.
Have at it, neighbors!
Hey Corzine, you got bucks, pay MY tax.
Spread the wealth!
New Jersey citizens sacrificed on the Democrats altar of taxes to appease their Class Warfare gods.
So glad I got out 4 years ago.
Heil CorSLIME!
I wish I could.....
Surprised? No. This was Whitman’s scheme...........
Why is it politicians can always find the "courage" to stick it to the middle class taxpayer but can NEVER find the guts to actually cut the pork out of their budgets.
property taxes are very high in NJ- losing the deduction will mean thousands extra in tax?
just because he was CEO of goldman sachs doesn’t mean he has a clue when it comes to govt

Amen...we got out last July. It’s like getting a raise!
NJ was the Crossroads of the Revolution.
Maybe it can be so again.
I lived in New Jersey for 52 years. It is a beautiful state, but the people keep electing Dems, who tax them relentlessly.
I left for greener, and less expensive pastures three years ago, to the shock of many close friends. Now they wish they had done the same.
This will come to more and more states.
Mark my words...one day this will all come to a head. “Soak the rich” policies make good politics but bad politics. Eventually, we all end up paying in some way shape or form
To all New Jersey residents You elected the Democrats so STFU and Pay the Bill !!!
...in related news, unions, welfare queens and illegal aliens celebrated at the local ACORN office in Camden.
What do you expect to happen??
36 years for me; so glad.
