“Unfortunately, my family has seen many people say and do many things to ‘cash in’ on the Palin name,” she said in a statement.
“Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth.”

Sounds to me like he has decided to go public to cash in and turn on his own child in doing so.

Crazy how traditions like courtship and parental guidance actually work, no?

I hope she keeps her legs together until she finds herself a husband. Its the least she can do for dear old Mom.

Obama’s daughters are members of a known victim class.

“If this was Chelsea Clinton, half the membership here would be screaming “WHORE!!” whilst painting her head with a Scarlet “S”.

Damned Hypocrites”

Dear Bill,
Chelsea is not a whore....she’s ugly like her cross dressing Mom, but she is not a whore.

Certainly. And btw I am a supporter of Palin also, and I’m sorry this happened because I think it may well be an issue in the next election.
Hey, yeah, we all did things we wish we hadn’t, and it doesn’t nec reflect on our parents (altho I have to admit, that as a parent I always feel that what my boys do reflects on me, both the good and the bad). However, it has become pretty much a non event to have babies before you marry. That’s not a healthy thing for our culture. So, I’m going to continue to stand up and say, “Hey girls, STOP and THINK—is that a guy you really want to marry? If the answer is no, don’t sleep with him.”

How many Valentines did little Sasha O. get at school last month? Did she get one from a boy she likes? Was her heart broken because she didn't? What? We don't know?

That's right. We don't know. And we shouldn't. That same respect should be shown to all politicians' children and grandchildren.

And they call conservatives "haters."

Yeah. Unfortunately both concepts are pretty foreign nowadays. I’m not one to say that two 19-year-olds can’t marry and stay together, today’s culture just makes it next to impossible.

You know, there was a time that girls got "in trouble" and some provident infertile couple got the child they longed for, then the girl would come home sadder and wiser, but ready to go on with her life. And, of course, the boy got off scot-free.

Now, the choice is either abortion or handicapped, impoverished motherhood.

Tired of hearing about “poor Bristol”. If she’d kept her pants on this wouldn’t have happened.

Thank you!

Too bad for the baby but what the hell was this ditzy airheaded trollop thinking?

For crying out loud - her mother was the governor of the state and she didn't have the brains or morality to keep her legs toether or to use birth control.

It’s pretty messed up, but the girl (as always) really gets the short end of the stick. I bet her ex will basically be AWOL for the rest of the kid’s life, and his child support payments are probably <=$200/mo (try and raise your kid on THAT!), since he’s probably marginally employed.

...children are better off even with abusive fathers than without them.

After reading "The Unexpected Legacy of Divorce", I can't think of single reason I would leave my husband.

Adoption is the answer for a situation like this. A woman in Bristol's situation could find a great couple, for she's lovely and her family is bright and ambitious.

And if Levi has any real guts in him trying to grow up, the prospect of adoption might make him a man...

Won't happen. But I'm just saying.

Would that ALL young girls would take a hard look at the potential father of their child before they give him the opportunity to become that.

The operative word being "look." The eye becomes clouded when sex is involved. A woman loses her ability to make that judgement.

I am speaking from experience.

Wow, for some reason there's a real need here to pile on the Palins. As if there's no shotgun weddings in your family tree?

I'm beginning to suspect seminar trollers.

It makes sense now why they didn’t get married before the baby was born. What a shame.

Not always.

My sister had a baby at 20. She did not marry the boys father. She bought her house at age 23.

She now owns two house, both valued at 350k. The baby is now 26 with a BA from Case.

My nephews family got involved with him at 6 months, they could not resist his face :) Dad was not far behind.

My nephew has the best of both and so do we, good families that love each other out of what could have been ugly.

Never say never my friend.

The responsible thing to do in a situation like this IS to give the baby up for adoption, and some caring people still do that. Telling girls that it’s OK to raise a baby as an unwed single mother is one of the worst aspects of the breakdown of our culture.

In this case, I suppose that the press would have discovered & violated the privacy of any adoptive parents. But it would have been awfully brave for the Palins to send not just the pro-life message, but the pro-adoption message. It isn’t admirable to save a baby’s life only to drag it into a dysfunctional mess.
