The Obama Rosetta Stone
Wall Street Journal ^ | 3/12/09 | Daniel Henninger

Posted on 3/13/2009, 2:44:27 PM by chpmass

Barack Obama has written two famous, widely read books of autobiography -- "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope." Let me introduce his third, a book that will touch everyone's life: "A New Era of Responsibility: Renewing America's Promise. The President's Budget and Fiscal Preview" (Government Printing Office, 141 pages, $26; free on the Web). This is the U.S. budget for laymen, and it's a must read.

Turn immediately to page 11. There sits a chart called Figure 9. This is the Rosetta Stone to the presidential mind of Barack Obama. Memorize Figure 9, and you will never be confused. Not happy, perhaps, but not confused.

One finds many charts in a federal budget, most attributed to such deep mines of data as the Census Bureau or the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The one on page 11 is attributed to "Piketty and Saez."

If ANYONE does not realize why Obama is doing NOTHING to fix our capitalist economy, they should read this. Too bad they did not read it when he started campaigning from the Senate years ago.

A Marxist without a doubt. And at the massive expense of America -— I still cannot believe this country put him in the White House. Staggeringly stupid.

I’m curious how this type of “fairness” is applied to the lefty one percenters - Isn’t president Soros among them?

"Fairness" has two definitions:

1) Goods are distributed through voluntary transactions as people trade value for value. The outcome is "fair".

2) Corrupt politicians distribute reources in ways designed to punish their opponents and reward their friends. The outcome is "fair".

Over half of America pays no taxes and believe that Definition #2 is the most fair way to run society.

Yes, this was a very scary read. I was surprised no one had posted it yet. I’m sure most Americans don’t want this, even those that voted for him. People thought they were getting Bill Clinton’s third term. Instead, they’re going to get a strange mix of Mussolini and Hugo Chavez.

This is exactly the kind of garbage that will turn certain classes of Americans against each other, and it’s entirely unnecessary.

Excellent read! “Fairness” as defined by Mr. Obama is certainly a misnomer.

Here is a .pdf of the collectivist’s manual by Piketty and Saez, it reads like a marketed up Communist Manifesto.

Hey, Obama, I think that mansion you own in Chicago isn't fair. How about opening it up to some of Chicago's homeless? It's big enough that I'm sure it can house a couple of dozen comfortably. And how about sending your own kids to private school?

Why is it that the moral hypocrisy of conservatives is always considered fair game but the fiscal hypocrisy of liberals never is?

Mark Levin spoke about this article yesterday. Obama’s after the top ten percent just as much as he is about the top one percent, so anyone who thinks they’re exempt from these policies is wrong. There will never be enough money to redistribute from the wealthy, so eventually he’s going to have to move down the economic ladder.

Thomas Sowell write several books on the liberal idea of fairness and what's wrong with it: The Vision of the Anointed, A Conflict of Visions, and The Quest for Cosmic Justice. The "conflict of visions" that Sowell talks about is, broadly speaking, the idea of fairness of process and fairness of outcome and whether a person believes the imposition of fairness of outcome is achievable or not. For those that do, they believe that they are on a quest to bring about utopia and anyone who stands in their way is evil for trying to stop them.

I’m no economist but it would be very interesting to see the curves for other groups as well. Say, for example the bottom twenty percent, or the middle 50%. The assumption of this chart is that everyone else declined as a percentage of total income, but that may not be so.

A hidden assumption of this chart is that economics is a zero-sum game. Just because income increases for one group does not mean that everyone else, or someone else declined as a direct result.

The rancorous language used to describe these taxpayers makes it clear that as a matter of public policy they will be made to "pay for" the fact of their wealth -- no matter how many of them worked honestly and honorably to produce it. No Democratic president in 60 years has been this explicit.

I commented many times during the campaign how Bam Bam and his sycophants were pretty forthright about their socialism (though they refused to own the word -- still smart enough on that score) until, by a week or two prior to Election Day, they were almost in-your-face about it. Remember Bam Bam's speech where he made fun of McCain ("Next he'll be calling me a communist, har har har"). I believe to this day that he was knowingly mocking his own supporters, knowing most were too stupid to realize that yes, indeed, a communist is exactly what he is.

The question is:

"I still cannot believe this country put him in the White House."

And the answer is:

"Staggeringly stupid."

Everyone should read this. Obama is more explicit about his intentions than any other President in recent memory, yet people don’t believe it.

Republicans need to HAMMER him on this class warfare garbage. I don’t care what the polls say. If more Americans understood what he’s trying to do, his poll numbers would plummet.

I saw this kind of “fairness” imposed in NYC under Mayor David Dinkins... He decided that the wealthier neighborhoods should “share the burden” with the other parts of the city. Dinkens started placing homeless shelters on the upper east side, one of them one block from my home. Within one day of the shelter opening, crime skyrocketed, garbage can were routinely turned over onto the sidewalks, and property values plumeted. In response to complaints, the city ordered “a study” of the problem.

"This presidency is going to be an act of retribution."

Anybody that listened to Rev. Wright's sermons knows that his brand of 'christianity" wasn't about redemption, but was all about retribution.

You’re exactly right. The only reason people believed Obama would be a centrist is because he looks like a nice, clean cut, conservative guy (as does his family). His exterior image is right out of Rules for Radicals. People wouldn’t vote for a guy that looks like Bill Ayers, but if you dig deeper, you realize that Ayers and Obama don’t disagree on much.

I can’t understand why people couldn’t connect Obama’s history in Wright’s church with his economic beliefs and worldviews.
