Some studies indicate it can leach into the product at very low (still FDA acceptable levels) if the container is heated above 180 degrees like what could happen from excessive microwaving or boiling in water. Anyone that gives a bottle of milk or other product heated above 180 degrees is going to have a much greater issue than BPA..... like severe burns from the heat of the contents.
FDA allows food-contact plastics for their intended use based on safety data. The process includes stringent requirements for estimating the levels at which such materials may transfer to the diet. FDA’s safety criteria require extensive toxicity testing for any substance that may be ingested at more than negligible levels. This means FDA has affirmatively determined that, when plastics are used as intended in food-contact applications, the nature and amount of substances that may migrate, if any, are safe.
Here is a good conspiracy nugget. GE owned both NBC and GE Plastics which was the worlds largest supplier of Polycarbonate (Lexan). Five months after selling the GE Plastics Unit to a Saudi Arabian company, Matt Laurer (employee of GE) does a hit piece on Polycarbonate and BPA.
They did not allow the the new owners of GE Plastics or anyone else from the plastics industry to appear on the show to defend this so called evil product that is used in millions of products from medical devices too hockey helmets.
Matt's parent company felt completely fine selling the product for the last several decades. Did they know something and dump it on the Saudis? Yes they did they knew it was safe but saw the writing on the wall and dumped it.
The left went after polycarbonate in the early nineties then saying it was a cancer causer. Unable to make that stick they moved on to the latest creative threat artificial hormones! They inject rats with high levels of BPA (we are talking about a chemical that may be “ingested at very low levels (Parts Per Billions) not injected at thousands of times exposure levels.
One would have to drink 66,000 liters of water per day to reach the FDA allowable limit. Failing to get anywhere with this they have moved on to a new tactic. Their studies show very low levels could be a problem. They tack it to early onset puberty and I have even seen the attempt to suggest it may cause autism. My guess is this looked like the next holy grail for the Bar Association.
For more information on scientific studies Google the National Drinking Water Foundation and Bottle Water Matters.
Also Enjoybottledwater.org The 2nd two websites have petitions please sign them. Another attempt to attack a very healthy safe and in demand product in the effort to crush private sector jobs in favor of tap water, union workers and pseudo environmentalists.
The Bottled Water Industry has donated millions of dollars of product to Katrina and other natural disasters as well as Man made disasters such as 911.
God forbid San Francisco has another earthquake....municipal water systems don't run without electricity.
Thanks. That’s a great summary of how bogus this is. A total fraud. I’m sure if you dig deep enough you will find one of the major sponsors of this “research” is a group of tort lawyers. Just watch, they will now proceed to sue the plastics and bottle manufacturers for “damages” based on this frivolous trash passing itself off as science.
