NEW YORK – Bernard Madoff and his wife had $823 million in assets at the end of last year, including $22 million in properties stretching from New York to the French Riviera, a $7 million yacht and a $2.2 million boat named "Bull," according to a document his lawyers filed Friday.

The document, prepared for the Securities and Exchange Commission at the end of last year, was contained in papers filed with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in an effort to get Madoff freed on bail.

Among the couple's assets: a $12 million half share in a plane, $65,000 in silverware and a $39,000 piano. It values their four properties — in Manhattan, Montauk, Palm Beach, Fla., and Cap d'Antibes, France — at $22 million, and the furniture, fine art and household goods in the homes at $8.7 million.

But the bulk of Madoff's assets, according to the document, consists of an estimated $700 million value put on his investment business. Madoff said during his plea that the market making and proprietary trading side of his business were "legitimate, profitable and successful in all respects."

Typical AP headline...

It should have read:

Madoffs not worth a bucket of warm spit - Stole every dime they ever had..

I vote that EVERYTHING be taken and sold.

EVERYTHING, including their damned toilet paper — unless they can show proof of honest income derived without the use of stolen money or the falsely earned respect...

So where is the rest of the money? Distributed to earlier investors?

It also waited for the 4th paragraph to put in this, “But the bulk of Madoff’s assets, according to the document, consists of an estimated $700 million value put on his investment business.” Which we now know, was worthless.

Nothing will happen. The Rats won't do anything since Madoff payed them off. Just another card propping up the house of cards.

Which means that the Madoffs will soon be a poor white trash family lead by a jailbird, some big hotshot lawyers soon will be millions of dollars richer, and the victims of the Madoff scheme will get $50 each.

If I were their jailer - they wouldn’t need tooth brushes....I’d pull their teeth for spite.

Yes, you’re right -— I am NOT a charitable or nice fellow.
I don’t believe in getting angry or emotional - I prefer to get even.

Madoff wanted to be in priso so he’d be protected from all those who want to see harm come to him is my guess

You guys are so cruel. I say let her keep enough to buy a place to live. I think double-wides go for around $30K and a bus pass is $70 a month. She can make a living babysitting Octomom’s eight kids.

They have plenty of money in Israel, which after the prostate cancer finishes off Bernard is where Ruth Madoff will go. You cannot be extradited from Israel for financial crimes.

You got that about right, except that the victims will have to fill out mountains of paperwork and wait several years to receive their $50.

(We just received our payout from the Tyco class action - a whopping $75 . . . )

I like that - especially the Octomom touch. The only thing I might add would be a "friendly" skunk living in the neighborhood which regularly "odorizes" the perimeter of her double wide.

“$1,000,000 went to ‘dims’.”

Hubby and I were talking about the $1 billion+ Madoff gave to Democrat politicians, and how (SHOCK!) we’ve heard nothing about this in MSM.

1. Most of the people he scammed most likely voted Democrat.
2. The people he scammed want their money back.
3. The Dem politicians say they’re not GIVING the money back.
4. Do you think there’ll be a riff between the victims and the politicians?
