Snowe introduces bill to strengthen Title IX [Snowe+Democrats]

WASHINGTON — Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, said she aims to draw more girls to high school sports by making schools report the gender breakdown of their athletic programs and making that information available online.

In legislation proposed recently, high schools would collect information on the gender and ethnicity of participants in school-sponsored athletic programs, including the number of practices, games and playoff appearances each team makes. Information on each school would be posted on the Department of Education’s Web site.

“While we’ve made tremendous progress in ensuring gender equity, students and parents can’t see whether the law is being followed because they don’t have key information about scholarships, opportunities or athletics budgets,” Snowe said in a statement Wednesday. “This bill would help us take those last couple steps and en-sure that girls are getting the same chance to play sports as their male peers.”

The bill, also sponsored by Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., would enact the same requirements for high schools that are already mandated for colleges and universities under Title IX, which requires that federal funds be distributed equally between male and female teams.

The country is going to hell in a hand basket and all these frigging idiots have to do is pass a law where local school beauracrats have to spend time and money to put together and submit a spreadsheet to Federal beauracrats. Will probably cost state, local and federal governments a total of about $ 1.5 billion per year. But, what the hell is another wasted billion or two in tax money???? !!!!!!!

Settle this once and for all.

End all separation of the sexes in sports and let the best man win in every competition and try out.

Yet another attempt to build a cage called "the Skinner box." Here is a vanity I posted years ago:

GOD AND MAN IN THE SKINNER BOX

Attending college in the 60's, I was exposed to the writings of BF Skinner in a mandatory Psychology 101 class. At the time I was struck by the time and energy the department devoted to this man and his theories. Essentially, he put a chicken in a box and taught it to play baseball by rewarding it with feed. When the chicken pressed a lever on cue, or ran a base, it got a pellet. Skinner was able to train animals to a remarkable degree with this method of positive reinforcement. He also demonstrated that negative reinforcement, such as electric shocks, was not as effective as positive reinforcement in controlling animal behavior.

So far, Skinner has not done the world much harm and perhaps he has even contributed something useful if you are Siegfried and Roy. But it soon became clear that Skinner and my psych professors had ambitions grander than dog and pony shows when they required a reading of Skinner's Walden Two. Here Skinner extrapolates his findings from chickens to people and causes real mischief. Essentially, he postulates that the humsn animal is a TABULA RASA, neither good nor evil, which can be conditioned into good behavior. There are no evil people just poorly conditioned behavior. All that is required to have generations of well behaved human chickens is a grand enough Skinner box to positively reinforce positive behavior. Of course, it does not take a socialist to see that it would take more than a village, indeed it would take a federal burocracy, to build and maintain a big enough box.

An utter waste of time.

America could be facing amphibious invasions by the Communist hordes, our cities could be under aerial bombardment worse than London during World War II, and this useless waste of oxygen Olympia Snowe would be seeking to set government standards for the minimum number of chocolate chips that any cookie calling itself ‘chocolate chip’ must have.

And Patty ‘Osama-Mama’ Murray?

I’m not even going there, the blood pressure is already creeping up this morning.

Dumb effin b*tches.

That is damn brilliant FRiend.

I’d like to copy and distribute that to everyone I know, with your permission.

One of the most profound things I’ve read in a while.

What the hell business is it of Snowe’s to want to collect information — whether it deals with male or female — of this nature? Is there no escaping Government. Is there no end to what the fascist-minded want of us?

Snowe has lost what little credibility she ever had. She’s an over the edge liberal who has finally disrobed herself from the cloak of conservatism. What we find underneath is another left wing wingnut who things more Govt. will Save America. Snowe needs to GO!

“While we’ve made tremendous progress in ensuring gender equity, students and parents can’t see whether the law is being followed...”

The fact that less females than men want to be involved in sports, or that attendance at female competitions is lower is not relevant. Snowe needs to come out of the closet and declare herself a Democrat.

I’m not sure whether it’s because we’ve just moved to Maine and are paying more attention to Snowe (and Collins) or whether she just seems to be thriving in Obama Hope-Change-Land but I am really coming to detest her. Definitely needs to go. (But, I’m sure she has tenure given Maine’s voting patterns.)
