ISLAMABAD: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and his brother have been placed under house arrest by the Pakistan government, according to reports.

Tehreek-e-Insaaf chief Imran Khan has also been placed under house arrest, according to reports. Imran Khan was arrested in Rawalpindi. The Sharif brothers have been put under 3-day house arrest. The arrests come a day before the proposed long march.

On Saturday, under mounting pressure from the United States and amidst escalating political standoff at home, Pakistan government had decided to challenge the disqualification of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz from contesting elections in a bid to defuse the crisis but the opposition party rejected the move.

On a day of hectic developments, in what looked like a compromise with its estranged ally, the government of President Asif Ali Zardari decided to move the Supreme Court with a review petition challenging the apex court's decision barring the Sharif brothers from contesting elections and holding public offices.

Shahbaz was unseated as the chief minister of Punjab province and Governor's rule imposed there by the Zardari government. The government's package of concessions to main Nawaz Sharif came in the wake of a telephone call from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Zardari when she told him that Washington wanted to see stability and democracy strengthened in Pakistan.

Ruh-roh !!

Looks like things are getting a bit toasty in Pakistan. Hope Obama and Company are keeping their eye on the ball, as it were. I for one am sleeping much better at night knowing that our "esteemed" Secretary of State is watching over this situation.

Hey!! Let's move the bulk of our military to within striking distance of an out of control Nuke armed SLIME country.

The stupid act is just an act. The Indonesian in chief's acts are horribly intentional!

I have this website where you can watch live broadcasts from around the world, and I was watching Saudi TV (I take Arabic, and it’s a good way to improve your listening skills...) and I just heard about this—Nawaz Sharif and the uprising in Islamabad.

Pakistan is flaming up again. India, NATO...What is everyone waiting for? Send some troops into NWFP and clean out those terror cells.
